KC Press Release:

German Shepherd Dogs: Consultation On Breed Name Change
22-Jun-10

At the first meeting between the Kennel Club and the German Shepherd Dog breed clubs which had signed the formal Undertakings, the question of the nomenclature of the breed was raised. At this meeting the Kennel Club gave a commitment to consult on whether the word (Alsatian) be dropped from the formal title of the breed.

Before considering this proposition, the General Committee would like the benefit of the German Shepherd Dog community’s views on removing ‘(Alsatian)’ from the name of the breed.

The Kennel Club has asked all KC registered German Shepherd Dog clubs to consult their members on this matter before submitting their responses by the end of August 2010. If you would like your opinion considered you should contact your GSD club as soon as possible.

Perhaps it would be easier to ask those who don't want the name changed to contact their clubs!  Will surely be a lot less to count.

Frankly, my Dear... I no longer give a damn!  Let the KC call our breed what they will... too little, too late... we're off to pastures new!

Overtures from the Kennel Club - they realise the GSD have an exciting Show scene alternative - as do a growing number of other breeds.

The Kennel Club Show 'EGG' is now broken - let's all enjoy the omelette.

Pastures new or not the word alsation should never grace the words German Shepherd Dog so i for one will be contacting the clubs i am a member of for them to drop that misnomer of a name(not that they have this name in there title) this will be the first step on the ladder to re unite the breed once and for all if the word alsation does not exist then the breed alsation cannot exist then it will be up to the KC to ensure that all judges come from the BC list have passed all current tests etc and judge to the standard. Then in time who knows just the one true standard will be used for all countrys.
