Hi, can anyone tell me what they think would be produced by crossing a black sable female X Black & tan male?
The female sire was solid black, dam was black sable also. Male's parents were both dark black & tan.
What do you think would be the color in the offspring?
I was thinking 50% of litter would be various shades of sable, 25% would be dark black & tan, 25% chance of a solid black / bi-color.

female is a sable with black recessive - male could have black recessive if one of his parents passed it on to him, can't tell until/unless he produces black puppies (or not) when bred to black or black recessive. If no puppies in this litter are black, chances are he doesn't carry black - but won't tell for sure unless he is bred to a solid black female. Even then, can't be 100% sure unless he did (or never did) produce a black puppy.
Puppies will be sable with black/tan recessive, and black/tan with black recessive. You will know 100% that any black/tan puppies will have black recessives from the mother.
