Any alternatives to the Database? - Page 1

Hi. Due to many problems that arise with the pedigree database, I am trying to get your opinion any alternatives. Does anyone know of any websites that are comparable to this database that is as useful and large but doesn't have some of the proplems (especially with the lack of administrator attention) this website has? Thank you.

What exactly are you looking for?  What do you mean by comparable?  Are you looking for knowledgeable people, pedigrees, trainers, breeders, etc...?  There is none quite like this but there are many that are moderated.  Most others are also broken into categories so you can choose to focus on a particular issue.  None have a database of pedigrees, that's one thing you find only here.

I think every message board will have it's problems, some people like less moderation, some people like more.  If you Google there are others out there, but I don't think they are the same as this regarding pedigrees, classifieds, etc.

I would be interested to know how many users of this database would prefer more moderation?

Personally, I would like to see anonymous users being banned. I believe users would self moderate if their identitiy was known and the negative side of the forum would reduce.

I know that we all have choices and can choose not to use the site but it has so many good features that it is very sad that it is marred by the minority.

I agree, personally if I will say it here I will say it to your face, just the kind of person I am.  While there is a lot of controversy on here I just sort through the crap.

two alternatives i know of are :

Use your search engine.  Enter whatever it is that you are looking for.  For example enter "german shepherd message boards" or "working dog message boards" or "dog message boards" or "pet message boards".  Your search engine should bring up a variety of boards.  Then go look at them to find what you want, something that is a good fit for you.

Also I agree wholeheartedly with those who would like to see actual first and last names required on this board.  I am a member of other boards that require members use their real names.  It will only work if Oli requires it of EVERYBODY.

I wholeheartedly agree with Sue with regards to using real names as a step in the right direction. I am relatively new to this forum, but I have used the pedigree search as an invaluable tool for several years. I have been active on other dog forums, and I have always used my real name, however, I do not believe that this criteria alone will alleviate the problems encountered with public forums (dog or otherwise). Ultimately, the problems encountered with public forums run far deeper than the usage of real names.
