Hi Swifteagle,
Have you had him since a pup? He is a pretty boy.

Hi Rugers Guru, How are you doing?

Thanks mate...

We got him from the breeder at the age of 4 Months..... He has grown a lot on since we got him... Why is that?

I have always liked the dog in your avatar.... looks awesome.

I am fantastic! Thank you for the compliments on my boy.
I was wondering what have you been doing with him for 3 months? Obedience? or just play?
The reason I ask is because the first thing my puppies do is be socialized, and learn to bite. They are on the field playing and chasing a flirt pole at 8 weeks, and I thought you had just got your pup when you said it was his first lesson, so it was great for a first try.
I am no trainer, just a handler but I did notice his confidence level. I might be wrong here, but I would suggest to start from puppy scratch, too much pressure might bring out the worst in your dog. What is his pedigree? He is really a pretty boy!

Hi Reger, once again thank you for taking the time to write to me.

I have to be honest and in the last 3 months I haven done too much with the pup... Only playing ball, taking him to parks, schools and general socializing him. but no obidience at all.... the reason I was doing that was because the breeder (german guy and also trainer for police dogs(not sure about this)here in Australia, Victoria) told me to let the dog be a "dog" for the first 12 months... But after reading and making up my mind I decided to get started...

The helper is a well known trainer in my area.... he works for Security. He told me to join the schutzhund Club where he helps. I will be joining this week and hopefully doing the right thing by my dog.

The helper mentioned that he  has to go soft on the dog to help him build his confidence...  I am guessing your observation is that he is lacking confidence, is that right? Any suggestions to help him gain some?

on regards to his pedigree here it is for you to view it:

By the way he says thank you for thinking he is pretty....lol

Thanks once again for your time.

I agree let the dog be a dog for about a year without corrections, however, it helps to build confidence just learning how to play the game. As soon as he knows he can win at the game, and Will win at the game... You will see him blossom. He will be more confident, and as long as you continue to socialize and bond with him he will be a great dog. I whole heartrdly believe if you introduce the "game" early on it produces a solid foundation for bite work.... Besides it is sooooooo much fun for them! Tell him he is very welcome and kiss his nose for me!!
Regards,
Renee

quick one, when you say the "game" what do you mean?

as in tag of war?

I always let him win...

I was hoping for more feedback from people that know more than I do... I guess no one is interested..

This is my opinion, it would depend on what you are training for. Protection or sport. If this is his first lesson and you are training for protection I reckon the decoy should have backed up and moved away at 48 secs, you should have given a comand to the dog at the begining and then praised him in normal tones after the decoy had moved away. Then followed the direction of the decoy. Again depends what you are training for. It makes it hard to comment that the decoy is not visable at the start. I wouldn't worry about the bite yet. I would try to get the dog used to the idea that showing agression to an agressor is a successfull method of getting him to leave. Have fun, take  care, R.
