Dog1

I'm considering a beautiful sable male that has placed well at shows. This is a male with excellent conformation and working ability. I believe him to be a VA candidate here in the US.

Sables are rare, good sables even rarer. To be successful in the US a male needs a progeny group and offspring shown, trained.

I would like to see what interest there is in bringing back sables here in the US. If you have an interest, please write! (PM or e- mail) I would love to hear from you!

I personally love sables. I wish we could go beyond the color and look at the potential that the dog has. Please find below some of my favourite showline sables. Hope you like them too.

Hello Randy, while I put other qualities above color, I really like the sables. I contacted you about breeding to your sable boy, but he was returning to Germany. You saw my sable pup go VP1 in Statesville last year. Would really like to see some nice sables here.

Best,
Rik

Randy,
if you want something in your breeding program, do not count on or worry about other people. You would only get disappointed. I have been doing this for a few years now and learned the hard way never to rely on others. What it comes down to is to check with yourself if you want to put that kind of time and money in and if the answer is yes, do it!
As to sables in the showring: Unfortunately, the interest and the amount of dogs is steadily diminishing in Germany. Nobody is really interested within the current SV leadership. I miss Peter Meßler so much!!
Everybody needs to decide for themselves if they wish to breed and show for fashion or for themsleves. I made my decision a long time ago. With that being said, I am happy that a new sable homebred girl just got titled and her V-rating in Germany, out of two important sables we owned - Ronaldo von Arlett aka Quinto and Vila vom Haus Dexel. Penny is a double sable and there is even a remote possibility for her being homozygous for that color. We will find out when we breed her in Germany before returning to the U.S. in a few months.

Rahul,
I believe you contacted me about three months ago about a sable dog. I have a 2 year old sable female with top show potential in Germany for sale. She was bred and whelped in Germany by a known kennel and has never been in the U.S.. With a low ZW and normal hips and elbows, she might be a top prospect for you in India. If interested, please send me a pm or email.

I was going to say more or less the same as Chris,  you have to be sure of your own dog and if you hope to present a progeny group you must be prepared to provide or find your own females somehow.  I have been involved with sables (showline) for some time.  I bred (but did not own) a male called Draco, who was good, but fathered very few litters and hardly any with top quality females, we could never present a progeny group.  I used him with a nice female of my own, and I  now have his son, Storm, who is better than the father.  He has always been in the first 3 places in shows so far (in categories up to 18-24 months) and has had 6 times first place. But very few breeders want to use him so far.  Only a few breeders really like sables, most are afraid it will be difficult to sell sable puppies, they prefer to use black/red dogs, even those of lower quality.  Here in Ecuador we do have a few very good quality sable dogs competing and obtaining good places, mostly females though as it is so difficult to get far with a sable male dog. In an important show if there is a black/red dog of similar quality in the category this will probably win in preference to the sable, especially for an important title, so the sable male has to be truly outstanding to make his mark. If you personally like the dog and believe that he can contribute positive characteristics to the breed, then go for it.  In any case its a lot of time and expense to campaign any male up to VA level, with a sable its just that bit harder,  but very rewarding if you succeed!

Rik, I still wonder how far Silas could have gone in show. He convinced through his expression and very nice open movement that spoke for his correct structure. You remember how crowded it was next to that walkway? I think Koenig overheard alot of the comments the crowd was giving. Would love to see more sable SL here in the US just to emphasize the judging more on structure and movement. And it wouldnt make me feel as "displaced" when I come with my WL sables....LOL

OT: here is my youngster going VP3

Mystere

Chris,

I miss Messler, too.   He was a real joy to host and had such a sense of humor!!  i think of him every time I hear a reference to "plumber's crack," because I had to explain the phrase to Peter and he nearly died laughing.  That, explaining  "red neck"   and another SV judge who almost was eaten up because he would not listen to the female (American) handler's warning about her own dog, had him laughing all weekend.

Well....I for one..absolutely love the sable dogs.
We just placed VP2 with Bear....a 6-9mo black sable DDR puppy....he is a super looking puppy.
Planning on several "Sable colored" dogs for next year!
Best wishes,
Robin

I love the sables too. I wouldnt mind owning a couple more sables. I like the very dark sables the best.

Robin,
Bear is a really nice pup. I sure LOVE his dad. Bear was a really cute pup too...very outgoing. When I was over at Kims he would always run up and say hi.
