Is it common for puppy ears to suddenly flop after they have been up solidly for 6 weeks???. He will be 13 weeks on Thursday and his ears have been down for the last 4 days. Just looking for reassurance that this is normal???.
Thanks.

he's likely teething. if his ears were up before, they will come back up after teething. not uncommon...

Try giving him a bone or raw hide or something to chew on... Just to help strenghten the muschles in his ears plus its also good if he is teething!

Yes this is very common, nothing to worry about.

love those ears!
just to make double sure, have the vet check to see that there isn't a bacteria or yeast growing.
most likely its just teathing.

I love puppy ears. Floppy, erect, one of each, out to the side.
Most of the time they do come up, especially if they stood as a puppy, unless there is an injury or possible infection. Three of my four had erect ears as puppies, then one or both flopped off and on during teething, but afterwards both stood on all three.
My 8 month old has fairly small ears as far as GSDs go, and hers have always been pretty perky, even during teething. Good luck, that is one cute puppy! He looks like Mickey Mouse :-) What's his name? I'd like a black dog some day, and if the right one comes along with a good pedigree and has the disposition I desire, I'd snap it up in a heartbeat ;-)

Thanks for your responses, much appreciated. He is definitely teething which is more than likely affecting his ears. I was surprised initially that his ear stood so early at 6 weeks. I have a 3 year old German showline who is a reasonable dog that I trial and the puppy (Bronson) his name is, is my first full working line dog and is showing some promising drives and traits so far and we are very pleased with him.

that happens with some bloodlines, so it's pretty common. it'll be fine, give it a month and report back. give him something to chew on.
