Male lifting leg to pee?

hi,

My boy is now nearly 7 months old but he has not started to lift his leg to pee... He is not castrated. he still pees like a girl..lol
his only company is our 2 year old female.

Is this a learned behaviour or is a inherent one?

Would you expect a change on the personality of the dog once he starts to do it? (marking terretory, more agression or protection for "his area")

Could be learned - could be just not old enough - I have seen girls lift their leg - he is only 7 months old - give him time to grow up....

Hi I have a 3yr old male GSD and a 1yr old GSD and 3yr old female GSD.My 1 yr old has not lifted his leg to pee.I was worried until i took him to a friends house and he lifted his leg to pee on thier bush.i believe it has to do with the alpha and beta males .All dogs have a place in the pack.When he gets ready to lift his leg in his yard then the line up in the pack will be challenged.

My GSD still pees without cocking his leg and hes 17months

hi,
i have a 2 year old male that does not lift to pee as he is not dominate and does not care.
it tend to be the dominate one that do this, i prefer male male not too pee every where, he more like bends into a standing pee. i dont see a problem with that, also i have a female and some males never see it so they dont do it.

it all depends on the dog....

I had a German Shorthair Pointer that never did lift his leg and he was the only dog we had. Not a big deal to me.

my boy is 2 1/2, he only lifts if we are not home. Also, he only started doing it 6 months ago.... LOL Don't worry, he is fine
