I feel that the kc would not do this for our breed as to much money would be lost but it is up to the breed clubs and the breeders to ask why it can be done for one breed and not another I know I will be writing to them and will be looking for answers but I wont hold my breath

Why not ask your breed club to put it in their rules that members must do all the health tests and maybe give a limit - ok you won't stop Joe Public registering them but you can promote the healthy dogs bred by your members.

From what I understand, the CLAD DNA scheme was ongoing from 2000, and proved it success by breeders getting on board, and in 2005, the KC introduced a DNA control scheme by only registering Irish Setter litters from parents DNA tested normal or hereditary clear.
From Jan 2008, the KC ceased to accept any new registrations for Irish Setter progeny produced from a CLAD carrier parent mated to a clear parent (either DNA tested clear or hereditarily clear).
So, the message to me at this stage of the game is, if the majority got on board and did the testing, prove its success in the field, the KC will make it mandatory for registration.

Doppleganger are you for real????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please tell me if clubs did this just how you suppose they are going to keep a check on the activities of their members? i.e What litters they register with the Kennel Club and what the hip / elbow results of the parents are etc?? Bloody hell (excuse my french) club committee members are unpaid servants of a breed club doing the best they can in freely giving of their time to do enough things that are needed in order to comply to all the Kennel Club rules and documentation completion , as well as running shows and all the pre organisation that requires, without taking on what you suggest.
Tell you what, since it is disclosed every year in the KC Annual returns, the KC are aware of every member each club has and its constitution, as well as having every Hip / Elbow score on its database, why dont you suggest that the KC inform every breed club every time one of their members register a litter where the member has not complied to that Breed Clubs code of practice!! After all, only the KC is constantly aware of every litter being registered, since the KC are the only ones getting any money out of the registration of these litters. Just the same as they KC get money out of collecting the data of the Hip & Elbow scores (i.e. the KC get their own cut from the price paid to the BVA).
Apart from being fairer (in that those getting paid to do the work actual do something for the breeds) as well as being more efficient ? Oh, I forgot, you are a KC lover arnt you, god forbid I suggest the KC waste any more of their precious time and money on trying to help improve OUR breed !!

Why Sue, are you saying that the majority of the GSD breed in the UK is puppy farmers?

by Sue B on 12 May 2010 - 13:05
Well lets put it this way, it is estimated that over 70% of registrations are from people who have no futher participation in the breed beyond that of producing puppies, so what do you think Mark3?

Wind your neck in you stupid cow, the KC no longer ask for a list of club members, just the total number of members.
It was only a suggestion, if your clubs did this then it would be self policing because one of you lot would soon dob someone in if they didn't comply.
