Can anyone tell me, or post a picture of what liver or blue puppies look like when a few days old? A breeder just showed me a video of his newborn puppies, there are 5 puppies and at a glance they look like sables, although three of them are a much lighter colour than usual and look somehow different, the other two look like normal dark sables. I could only see them on the small camera screen so far, so did not get a very good look, but will try to see them for real soon. The thing is both parents (and he assures me an accident did not happen) are black/tan showlines.

You can not get sable from 2 black and tan parents one must be a sable to have a sable hope this helps and good luck

Yes, I know that unless there was an accident they can't be sable, I just wondered if anyone had any more information about what livers or blues look like, so that I can go and see the puppies armed with a little more information, as I have never seen liver or blue puppies before, and how do you tell the difference between these two types? I have actually only spoken with the breeder's son and he says there were no sable dogs around when she was in heat. I know this breeder does not own any sable dogs, but I do need to quiz him further on this too.

hmm, interesting, I have also tried to search in google images but did not come up with much. Looking at these pictures, the pups I saw on the video did not look like that - the three light coloured ones had a darker stripe along the middle of the back, like sables usually do, and the colour was not slaty grey but more sandy colored.......

depends on the shade of liver, you can have deep choclate colors, to a red cinnamon color, even a fawn/isabella color.
blues are either silvery gray, or dark gray, like a russian blue cat.

OSO,
Based only on what you say, I would suggest the pups might be red sables, but if the parents are red/black, someone goofed if they are sables.....
How are you doing down there? I have been studying about the ancient cultures in your general area and will be presenting that information in one of the classes I am teaching. How are your dogs doing?

Well in that case, if they are not sables with the wrong father, they must be livers, not blues. However, I will get a better idea when I see them and will try to post some pictures.

Hi Hodie, I posted mine before reading yours! Everything is fine here, no strange health problems with the dogs at the moment! Which cultures in particular are you teaching about?
Thanks for the link sunsilver, I'll take a look now.
