I'm a reader, and not much of a poster.

The reason I'm posting now, is I'm upset with what this board has become.  Where are the posts I can learn from?  I used to love to read the training, and behavior posts.  They used to have meat in them.  They had so much for a novice to pull and use.  They are all now gone.

All I see are photo threads (I've a pet forum for that), and silly things.  I'll not even mention the other stuff on here now.

Where have the serious trainers, breeders gone?   Where can I once again read and learn?   I want to once again read the drama of trainers debating ideas.  Of breeders discussing values of said dogs.  Of owners with problems, and the advice of people who have years of knowledge to offer.

Where have the people who talk dogs gone?

Left the forum sick to death of the trolls and trouble makers that only come here to cause trouble. Why only last week we lost one of the most knowledgeable folk here, SLAMDUNC, I always enjoyed his informative posts, but even stated he'd had enough. Just hope he and many more who have left reconsider.

At the risk of being ostracised again, these are my thoughts.

Overboard! That’s where they have gone. If you consider the number of subjects and the resultant posts, there has to be thousands. Where else can they go?

I think that having read most of the posts although I have just joined the site, I find a lot of repetition and I suspect that almost every imaginable subject, dog problem, training method and its environs has already been submitted argued and digested.

To be honest, there is more varying and informative content here than there is in the Bible, and I might add, more realistic.

Some people just like to post just for the sake of it, and some of the content is puerile.

There are also some very genuine, conscious, caring and very GSD informative persons submitting their excellent knowledge to the site, these unfortunately appear to be in the minority.

Many are in it just for the Show dog/breeder fame and the money that it subsequently may bring. (Check the number of views these subjects get)

I have to admit that I have deliberately submitted some controversial and questionable posts just to get a reaction.

I have also tried to add some humour, to no avail.

So, unless you can come up with something like a five legged viridian coloured shemale dog, you are not going to find much that is new.

Have anice day!

This should also be posted to the general topics section. macawpower, nice to see you again and I agree!  The serious, knowledgeable, valuable people who won't tolerate nonsense in the GSD breed have been run off by those who defend the indefensible because they think they are standing up for those being "bashed".  THEY don't understand, nor care to, that those they are defending are the very ones doing disservice to the breed as a whole.  They want this board, like so many others, to cater to the pet population.  Preston was attacked for calling someone out just recently, and he frequented here little of late, because of just such nonsense.  So, he'll probably not be back either.  There are trolls here who really don't care about training, titling, health, breeding, etc. and just want to cause trouble and hold their "righteous sword" against any who call out those that have only dollar signs in their eyes and in some cases, even abuse and neglect.  Very sad, indeed.

My question is a serious inquiry.  I'd really like to know if many of these people have found somewhere else to discuss training/breeding/health/behavior issues.

I still browse this board, but when I find an interesting title, it usually peters out to nothing, or ends in flame wars.  I'm not interested in the wars between people.

I'm interested in leaning behavior and training methods.

The posters I use to look for are just about all gone, with only a couple still here, and once in a blue moon an old respected name popping up.

Have they moved to a different board?  I keep hoping the database will someday become what it once was, but I'm thinking that's a useless hope.

I do believe some may still look and listen but not offer much in the way of posts because most of time, it falls on deaf ears.  If you have recollection of any in particular, you may to try to PM.  Other than that, I can't help, but understand your frustration.

"I'm interested in leaning behavior and training methods."

Here's a constructive suggestion: if you want to read posts on learning behavior and training methods, start threads asking specific questions about those subjects, be patient about how long it may take people to respond because the dog people are spending more time with their dogs than on a forum and acknowledge that that they helped you with your questions.

Unfortunately, posts like this one, while making a valid point, also add to the noise level.

I agree with Keith.
