In answer to Sheila's what's the use in grading in her Ltt in the BC Mag i would think that Sheila should know the answer to this question as she has been in the breed long enough, when a German judges in his own country he judges by age and grades given are reflected by age, so under 2 can only get SG over 2 can get the grades VA,V, these being the top grades for age, an SG dog will not meet a V dog whilst still in the under 2yrs catagory as there is not a run of  of unbeaten dogs. Now over here although we do have age classes, a 6mth old puppy can and does run of with the older dogs, now because of age the dog can only get a VP grading but the judge is instructed to choose the dog/dogs that he considers the best on the day so even though a dog has been graded VP or SG  because of age it does not mean that the judge cant decide that this is the best dog and give him the ticket if he thinks that this dog is worthy of the ticket or reserve ticket, then he should award him so, It is age that graded the dog not his conformation/movement etc he got the highest grade for his age but in the judges eyes he is better than the dogs graded V (in other words had this dog been old enough to recieve a V grading then he would have done) so he gives the award as per instructions for judging in this country. It is not the grading that is at fault but our system and our run of for BOB etc Hope i have worded this correctly not that great at the writen word   lol

Hi,
Sheila knows all of the above.
Sheila thinks  like many of us, youngsters should not attain top awards.
Many of us have had 8 week old puppies that look as good as champion s! And many much older, but still under 2 years old, look superb but so much can change as they approach adulthood. When adult, they have a better chance of retaining their promise.
Top titles should be given to adults and the Germans are well aware of that for that is exactly what they do at home. Margaret

Its time the KC restricted dogs to their age classes and brought out a ruling that you can only move when your age permits and also stop allowing Puppies to gain tickets - it is easily done, but will they do it - probably not.

At least at Regionals all dogs remain in their age classes and do not compete against each other and all dogs over 2 years have to have the health tests available to the Breed at that moment in time.  As system that can be added to in the future.  No puppy will ever compete against an Adult - is this not more acceptable than the way it is now?
