Just thought I would break free of the normal dog problems and ‘on a lighter note……..’
Having left the Army after 22 years I joined the UKAEA police. A good friend of mine (T Dalzeal) was a dog handler and his particular GSD, named Sasha was quite a handful and no one could get anywhere close to her, especially people in civilian clothing.
My patrol sergeant (Vic Saxby) would say to me “160; (My number) why is it that you are the only person other than that dogs handler who can get so close to her and she goes all soft and timid, I have also seen more than once that when she is approaching you, you stoop right down and she looks up and licks your lips, kisses you or whatever?
Well I told him that it was a mind thing, like a horse whisperer, only in this case a dog whisperer.
The dog’s kennels were at the other end of the site and I would go there with her handler, (Another Scottish lad as I am) and I would always pass a square of dark chocolate through the cage to Shasha. Eventually, to everyone’s amazement when the dog came up to me when it was being led on patrol it was not a kiss I got, it was a piece of dark chocolate that I had just put in my mouth that the dog got. No one ever found out and I often got some curious looks from people.
Tried that with my wife, it didn’t work.
I am sure that many of you guys have some light hearted stories regarding your GSDs??
