I have a very itchy dog. I since switched from Chicken Soup to Orijen 1 month ago, and he is still scratching like crazy. And, my other dog seems to have started also.
I am, and have been feeding salmon oil, and they are outside 8+ hours a day.
Someone mentioned too much protein in food can cause itchiness, true do you think?

It sure can RS. Try mixing with something low in protein or change completely.

Thanks missbeeb and Ambii, this feeding business is driving me crazy.
Hi Lief, that occured to me also. He is losing hair, but all over, not in patches. This time of year, I just attributed it to shedding his winter coat.
Usually mange occurs in dogs with a weakened immune system, and he seems bright and healthy with a ravenous appetite. No sign of reddened or scabby skin. He has been doing this for the last 2 or 3 months.
I think I will get him checked for that just to eliminate that possibility. He keeps us awake at nights scratching, and himself too, poor guy.

I guess its more common than people think, and they don't nessacarily have all these scabs and stuff at first, its pretty easily treated with revolution or ivomec I found the article but I only have it as a file if you send me a pm I will send it to you

I had a dog who suffered very badly due to high protein levels. You need to get the protein down to about 21% maximum.
I also found using liquid aloe vera and bee propolis tablets helped to cleanse the system. You need to be patient and not mess the diet around too much.

My dog was Itchy and was keeping me awake. I put on frontline, cleaned her ears, changed her food nothing worked. Took her to the vet, she had Erlichia. A few days into treatment all the itching went away.

Raw diet solved my l year old puppy bitches crazy itching. Only does it now on old coat which will be coming out and around her muzzle occasionally. Kept us up all night with her itching it was really bad; I put a crate blanket in her crate for her to sort of sound proof the itching as she sleeps right next to our bed; but the raw diet stopped it all. Amazing huh??

Itchy dogs could be a number of things - if it isn't something a vet can diagnose, you can go raw, which many do, or try a lamb and rice kibble that doesn't have any corn or wheat in it.
My son has just brought home a mix lab and he was very itchy - he is now on the kibble I feed my dogs and I have been giving him Fish Oil gel caps each day and he isn't itchy anymore. As well as he isn't shedding like he was. I noticed an improvement within a week.
