T his is what we need to counter the KC ABS
If not the breed council then the League should do it.
It will expose the the KC scheme for what it is and show how serious we are about health issues
At present the League web site is promoting the KC ABS they should be promoting their own.
The public surf the net when looking to buy if they see an accredited scheme by the breed clubs then thats got to send a message that these breeders are abiding by a code of ethics

Singer: The suggested "Accredited GSD Scheme" was withdrawn from the GSD Breed Council agenda (meeting around July 2009)

I have now requested the GSD League Council to give it their careful consideration.

The GSD League Council meet tomorrow and thereafter there is the AGM of same.

Give them time and you will see the changes unfold before your very eyes.

There are many exciting times just around the corner and I mean the nearest corner - not months away - only days away.

As I said before - be patient and wait for the good things to come.

I am sure the League will embrace this opportunity with open arms and within the next year there will be Schemes for every healthy GSD in the UK.

There are many people beavering away in the background making preparations - all we ask for is time and patience from all the supports of the true GSD.

I wish I could be as enthusiastic as you Aileen, but havent we had things akin to GSD AB Scheme in the past (Breeders Charters) and no one participated? no one policed them, and they were just a joke at the end of the day.
Almost everything I can think of that this breed has done in the past has started off as an agreed great idea, and then has required the goal posts to be moved so far in order to keep people happy (read as encourage people to participate). In the end they have fizzled out as a useless waste of time and effort.
I dont want to be forever living in the past and would just love to see some of these things suceed, but somehow I cant see it happening any time soon!

I agree with you Zac, the Breeders Charter was a failure, as it was up to the person to sign or not sign it and then no one followed up on those who signed.

However, with the WUSV Events and such like everyone can enter their puppies and young dogs to have them graded and once they reach the stage where hips and elbows are required then this will be the seeding out stage - the stage where most honest breeders would re-home their dogs with high scores - and I know that is not always the case - there are a lot who don't.

I would much rather get a good or high grading with my dog and know he has passed all his tests with flying colours - he may never become a Champion in the eyes of many, but he is a healthy happy chappy, who can easily enter the Regionals and Sieger and hopefully over the next few years of his life gain better grades.

Many KC shows are still being judged in the form of "the old boys network" - it has hardly changed for the last 20-30 years.  This way with Regional  Events where the Judges know they are judging healthy animals at least the winners will have acceptable health tests - I am not naive however to believe favours will not be done even at this type of Event.  At least from Junior Class onwards a hips score if it is done has to be declared, so no one can enter a high scoring dog.

There is really no point at all having a Champion Dog or Bitch who then cannot progress on to be bred from.  Those that have gained Champion with health scored tests are to be commended for that, but those that blindly care on with high scores, bad elbows and dozens of other faults should be ashamed - but they don't do they, they are blinkered by the £££ signs and the accolade of CH before the dogs name.

At least I know that if my dog wins his Class he does so on merit along with tests that are in accordance with being a healthy animal.  I am not stupid enough to fail to see that he could carry something horrible in his genes, but how would we ever know without tests being done - only time tells with a mating - great stuff if a dog passes only the good stuff on, but that is never 100% certain, but we can do our best to help this along surely.

Aileen.i just want to make a point,if an animal has both an A stamp and a BVA score then the bva one should be declared as well as the A stamp.have been a couple of occasions where the animal has got a good result with the german system and not with the bva.system.god only knows how one sorts that out.Carole
