Crufts 2010 seems to be disturbing some people's sleep.
GSD people's sleep!

Different (international) documentaries have finally drawn the attention of the world towards the massive health problems that people (GSD people, yes indeed!) seem to ignore.

All of a sudden h e l l seems to break lose, people are requested to apologise for addressing an existing huge problem, one demands that they'd be sacked. People seem to be bullied by severe attacks on their freedom of thinking, I for one, admit that there are severe problems and the different dog associations need to address these subjects. Internally! The world is not the problem, the people (and their clubs) that breed the dogs are the problem.

It's not like all the comments written on different boards have condemned what happened. On the contrary.
For each word of dispise, one can find a comment of gratulations.

Let me offer just one example for your discretion, randomly copy/pasted from a board:

"Just seen an interview by Claire Balding with a lady from Crufts and one from the AHT. The issue was actions being taken to remedy the health issues in some pedigree breeds. C4 showed pictures of a German Shepherd which I think was reported as having won a catagory. The poor animal clearly had very bad hips and Claire touched on the point. Why didnt she push that point? Why allow the Crufts representative to state that 'everybody'needs to get involved in the breeding out of unhealthy breed characteristics? The point would have been better made by simply asking 'Why did Crufts allow that dog to be entered? How come it was judged as being worthy of a prize?'. It is the breeders and the governing authorities who must take the lead to stop producing unhealthy animals and surely the first step must be to withhold entry to dog shows at all levels to any animal that is carrying congenital unhealthy problems. Shame on the Kennel Club, Crufts and above all C4 for not taking this on!"

Instead of bullying people about, we should take a moment to reflect and look what we can do in our own organizations.

Sleep tight. Don't let the Crufts Bugs bite you.

Jantie

By the way!
Should you want to confront the Kennel Club and brag with he health of the BOB (wit all due respect to the winner who cannot help it that the breeding regulations are insufficient), I would not recommend doing that if the animal was bred out of an HD3 Noch Zugelassen (still admissable) mother.

Jantie, you're a dreary ass at the best of times, ever selling yourself as an expert... though what it is you think you're an expert in / at, escapes most of us!  Take your worthless (and I do mean worthless) statistics, your sinking horses (what was THAT about?) and your general glee at others misfortune and PM them to your handful of fans.

Hi there!

Would be nice if you would give me some facts, to back up your argument, that is.
Looks like there ain't much behind it?

Your oneliners won't scare me away, you know that by now. Can't be bullied.
I have been saying "we need a healthy GSD" all along.

And now THE WORLD is slapping you in the face! "We don't want what you breed!"
"It's out of proportion, it's bent, it wobbles funny! It's not a GSD is it?"

Go back to your pedigrees, stop tapping each other on the shoulder, and look at what you have done.
Maybe let others do it for you. Doesn't look like you want to SEE what happened.
Said it before, take off the blindfolds!

Jantie can you enlighten us all in what YOU breed?  If you don't breed then maybe you can teach some of the breeders on here that have been breeding dogs for 30 years your secrets to "guaranteed perfection"?  Please do tell so that I know what we should "aspire" to try to achieve in the event any of us decide to become professional breeders like yourself??

Jantie;

If you had any idea whatsoever of what the Dons of the KC call a "GSD" (Alsation) and the general situation faced by proponents of the Breed here in the UK you would accept that the International Type of Dog, and the organizations that promote it, warts and all, are  INFINITELY preferable to the situation existing here at this time.

We are NOT STUPID. it might nave been worth you considering, before you butted in and used the situation to pursue what I see as your personal dispute with Mr Payne, why most enthusiasts in the UK look to Europe as a model for change. A flawed, oft perceived corrupt  and abused system is far better than NONE AT ALL. Which is the case in the UK.

BTW I don't own show Shepherds; none of my dogs have any hint of a "roach back" or unsoundness. I own dogs from working lines. I am not advocating everything is perfect there either; I am familiar with the views of Reiser and others. But, if I had to source my next working dog from  UK Alsatian stock, I wouldn't know where to start.

Jantie,
I have to agree with the people  who have posted before me. You have not bred ANYTHING, and you are not a breeder. You had a good dog that had bad hips, and chose to put him to sleep.  NOW.. you are the savior of the German Shepherd. By the way.. I am not a breeder, AND my 2nd shepherd Dana, had severe HD, and lived to be 12.  Had Degenerative Myleopathy.  Could not hold urine or poop. She would look at you as if to say "WHAT IS GOING ON WITH ME"?
If something is NOT PERFECT, you reject it? Not good enough?  PRETTY SAD!

There are ALOT of GOOD BREEDERS out there, and they try their best. S@@@ happens. If you are looking for THE PERFECT GERMAN SHEPHERD....there are none! ONLY IN A STATUE!!!
