Can BDGSDA be saved?

Many years ago BDGSDA was saved from the clutches of the obedience brigade by Johnnie Stokes and his compatriots - many of you will remember this.

Can we repeat history or does apathy reign these days? I put out a challenge to you......

if I can get sufficient support from people who will join BDGSDA for £6.50 and attend an SGM and stand up for a breed association doing what it should and promotiong the betterment of the breed by standing up to the KC's bullying - vote to recind our signing of the undertaking and pass a vote of no confidence in the Chair.

I will need about 50 people to commit to this and I am sure we can win - and I will personally stand as chair to get the club back on it's feet.

Can you help? If so please PM a commitment and I will start organising.

shirley,im willing to join,but i live in kent and wouldnt be able to attend sgm.is it still okay to join?

Noddi, a great start, thanks for your support - yesterday we were told people could only vote in person and so the proxy votes we took in were disallowed. We are not convinced this was correct so I will check it out and update this post.

IF YOUR CONSTITUTION STATES THAT PROXY VOTES ARE ALLOWED THEN THEY CANNOT BE REFUSED. SOME CLUBS CONSTITUTIONS DO NOT ALLOW PROXY VOTES ON PAPER, PHONE OR E-MAIL SO IT HAS TO BE BY SHOW OF HANDS OF PAPER BALLOT IN PERSON AT A MEETING - CHECK YOUR CONSTITUTION.

JIM AND I WILL SUPPORT YOU TOO FROM SCOTLAND IF YOU NEED US.

WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION YOU AND MUM WERE TO BE STARTING A NEW GROUP - BUT DO UNDERSTAND HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT A CLUB YOU HAVE BEEN W ITH FOR A LONG LONG TIME.

WOULD IT NOT BE BETTER TO SET UP A NEW GROUP AND GET THE 50 PLUS AND THE SUPPORT TO START OVER - I AM SURE YOU WILL DO IT - YOU AND MUM AND ZEP HAVE THE KNOW HOW AND THE STRENGTH TO DO IT.

KEEP US POSTED AND GET MUM TO PM ME AND WILL SUPPORT ALL WE CAN.

Proxy votes count me and I will also join Jim up, but if I need to be in attendance then you can only count me (and thats providing you hold it on a weekend when Jims at home to doggy sit !!).

You are all so kind - and so pro-active,... thank you - I am sure Shirley will keep you updated on this action, she is better than me at this type of thing, I just go to meetings, expect fair play and jump up and down if I dont get it - but she has a point, we resigned from the EC as this issue was handled and decided upon before the meeting got under way on the subject... very unfairly, and from the outset of Shirleys presentation, she was asked by the chair to make it speedy because we were running out of time - at 9.15pm !! Meeting started at 8.15pm an AGM of what was a premier GSD Association - one hour in and we are being booted out. Mo.

I now have up to 12 commitments if proxy votes are allowed and a good number of those who can attend. I will look at this over the weekend and see whether we can make it work - I would hate to give them membership money and then fail!!

Aileen, we will more than likely have to start up a new group to get an sv style event going unless we can change things miraculously at BDGSDA but it grieves us to let the border collies take over our GSD Breed Association.

BDGSDA don't want to break away from the KC - but equally we do not want to bow to their bullying on this matter. I firmly believe you can only make changes from within - we just need to see whether we have enough support to make the chnages happen.

Mo, Shirl & Zep - Im sure that it is easier to change things from within and that there are more ways to kill a cat than choke it on butter. The KCs actions here are down right despicable not to mention the so called members who have no interest in showing or the breed (GSD's). My concern now is that if the club go ahead and sign away their rights, what of the future? are the rights signed away for ever? ( No good asking the KC - as you probably wont get an answer) if so then Im sure that you and those that support the GSD will find your membership untennable. Good luck , you have our support, due to our location we could only offer the support with a proxy vote.
