Before I start, I want to mention: though I do know that liver is a serious fault in the show ring, I find them beautifu. However, I've been told that there are no reputable breeders that intentionally breed livers, as there are reputable breeders who breed whites and long coats.

I was wondering how I could find a reputable breeder who may have had liver puppies in past litters? I personally love the color, and have no plans in the future to do conformation with the dog I may get. Just SchH and possibly agility.

I have never seen a liver colored GSD in person, I have seen a website with a blue/faided colored GSD . I think once some one realizes that they are breeding puppies that are born a dilute they just stop breeding those lines together.

Hopefully its so hard for you to find a puppy like this because they have already found loving homes, why not drop a note to your local GSD rescue and put your order in for the perfect dog :)

Good luck

I know where there's a 3 year old male who needs a home. Where are you located?

I am a member,  I have a 8 month old black female  whose sire was imported out of the netherlands  and his parents are solid blue LC's.  and her mother was a liver sable.  so she's 100% carrier for liver, 50% for blue and 25% for white.   wonderful dog

you'll find many wonderful breeders who OFA ect  on the list.

Thank you, Uber Land. I think I made an account on there - I forgot the site though, so I haven't looked at it for a little while. LOL

It'll be a while before I actually get a dog. The EARLIEST would be summer this year. Right now I'm going to school full time and taking college classes on Saturdays, so there's no possible way I'd be able to have time for a puppy right now. Especially after I get a job. I have to pay for everything for him (which is only fair, if he's to be my dog), and next year, since it's senior year, I'll only be taking 4 hours of school every day.
So the time is a huge variable right now, but the soonest I'd be able to get one is over the summer this year. (End of May).

Since not many (thank goodness) actually breed FOR this color, you may want to hold your search until you're ready.  You may get responses now to your request, only to have to pass.  It's a catch while catch can type of situation.  While I was in texas I saw a sable liver pup, looked cinnamon, pretty little thing and full of spunk, he was placed immediately.

I bred a W. Ger showline litter that had a few surprise livers, to my surprise there were some people who really wanted them badly, out of the 5 livers, 3 went to out-of-state homes and one went to Canada...all pet homes.  I even had inquiries from people in the U.K and Central America.  Quite a learning curve for me.  I won't be breeding the same sire and dam together again, but I found the experience interesting.
