I've searched the internet and the whole forums, yet no one has a concrete anwser to which puppy food is best. My puppy is arriving on wensday and I want to have everything prepare in time for his arrival. I dont want a High protien diet as I want my puppy to grow at a proper rate.

I feed Canadaie Four Meats, All Stages. It's lower in protein than just about all foods and you don't have to switch foods as the pup grows. Good luck on your research.

For commercial puppy food in kibble form I would recommend either Wellness for Lg. Breed pups, Innova for Lg. Breed pups, or Solid Gold for Lg. Breed pups. Have used all three in a tri-monthly rotation and my dog liked each. They are a little more expensive though.

Price is not an issue, its quality which is.

go to www.dogfoodanalysis.com for an in depth rating of dog foods. It's the best site around for product comparison.

I feed my dog a product called Nature's Logic. They have dry food, treats & a raw food diet. This dog food is by far the best food out ther in my opinion. It is an ALL natural food with NO fillers, wheat, soy, etc. None of the "bad stuff" that vets tell you to stay away from. Halley has been on this food since she came to live with us. Our vet tells us that she is exactly where she needs to be (height, weight, etc.) The vet also says that she has the best coat he has ever seen on a GSD. Check out their site, natures logic, com. I can't say enough good things about this food line. Only a few places sell this food so get on line and see if there is anywhere by you that sells it. If all else fails, you can order it on line. Hope i helped.

Check into a raw diet. If you decide to feed kibble go with a lower protien recepie for a puppy. .

I use Call of the Wild-Salmon, mixed with Purina Pro Plan. Their diet is supplemented with venison, beef liver and plain yogurt.
I make their treats using apples from our trees, roasted bone broth, peanut butter and a little flour, baked.

Take no notice of the Protein content being too high in the Top Kibbles it is never proven that it affects the growth in any way
I have reared 3 Pups from 8 weeks old on Orijen 41 -4 2% protein, They grew at a normal rate and all had
(a normal hips etc,) and all stayed perfectly healthy it is a fallacy to say that protein is bad for there growth when it is not proven
The food i am feeding the Pup above has 39% Protein does she look troubled by it does she look as if her growth is compromised by feeding a high protein kibble, of course she does not
I will tell you what the trouble is with most people who raise Pups and have problems is that they over feed the Dogs regardless of what protein content the kibble has they feed the Pup and that is the thing which will bring on problems at a young age and that is over feeding.

Not everyone can feed Raw even if they want to But tell me One full feed of Raw you feed one of your Dogs
What is the Protein Content of that feed, For you must have found out before you decided to go onto a Raw diet and not just gone on it as a matter of course
Whether it is better or not does not matter, it only the Protein content of one feed that i am interested in
