i agree with the man/ woman who started the other post. the german shappard first envisioned by max Von stephanitz, the founder of the breed, ex cavalry captain and former student of Berlin veterinary college, believed firmly that dogs for the studbook should be selected solely on their ability as working dogs. i am a purist in that regard, i am breeding whites and only breed from dogs who have good personality's, good ability to take command, good at guarding and good with children and never over aggressive nor cowardly as that is what i believe are useful traits for the modern dog owner. their height weight or markings are therefore secondary and the breed is now so far developed allowing all colors in will not damage their core traits, it will just give more variety which isn't a bad thing. and if we are talking purely in regards to genetics and dominant genes only blacks and sables should be allowed in because black and tan is a recessive trait like blue, liver and white. the only dominant genes are for black and sable. but i do believe there should be limits albinos with pink noses and blue or red eyes should not be allowed in because they carry a genetic trait that causes blindness. there is no other hard medical or genetic evidence to suggest any argument for keeping the so called undesirable whites( with black noses and brown eyes) livers and blues out of the stud books, and by the same argument you are posing for the systematic eradication of these colors by your own argument the same should be done to the black and tan. for the 50 first years they were never discriminated for color the first gsd as we now know the breed, the grand daughter of founding sire horand von grafrath, lota was a pure white with black nose and brown eyes. you call yourselves purists, you are nothing but charlatans and hypocrites. its preserving the breed as first envisioned we should be doing not destroying it from within.

misbeeb.couldnt agree with you more.sorry ,April the dog woman, dont mean to be rude, but are your breeding animals health tested,ie.hip, elbow scored, males haemophilia tested normal, breed surveyed?most breeders who breed non standard colours normally quote in their adverts that these colours are rare and sell the puppies at inflated prices and yes i DO KNOW that these colours can and do crop up occasionally in normal coloured litters.thats why when one knows that ones bitch carries that particular colour gene one does ones best to go to a stud dog that DOES NOT CARRY THAT COLOUR GENE.i have once breed 2 pups that were blue and gold both were sold at the same price as their siblings and the new owners were given a statement saying that the endorsement for breeding WOULD NOT BE LIFTED UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

by april the dog woman on 28 January 2010 - 21:01

My dogs are fully screened, vaccinated and i only chip them on request as microchipping tatoos or any form of body modification in humans goes against my religious beliefs so i do unto my dogs as i would do unto myself. And sorry for the problems with my spelling but i could never spell properly i have a learning difficulty related to asperagers but its not asperagers but i have an IQ of 137 so i want no more cutting remarks about my spelling i do my best and all i want is an inteligant conversation about the creatures i love and i research them well. And no im not egyptian queen whoever she is my name is april maria sheehan corkery and im irish of mixed irish, scottish and french decent. I am not on here to insult anyone.

hello,April, glad to see yu have guts to give your real name.wot lines are your whites.i myself would not breed non standard colours,or coat, but as i said in my last post i have produced 2 non standard colours in 1 litter and my foundation bitch carried the long coat genes so obviously ive produced them too.i have no problems with people who breed for specific colour or coat as long as they are screened for the health defects in the breed and are not sold for inflated prices and in unsuitable conditions.before yu start preaching to me Bazza or anyone else for that matter ,everyone is entitled to do as they please.Carole Spelman.
