Well, Xander has been here for nearly a week now.  Everything is going GREAT.  He gets along wonderfully with my 16 month old daughter and my 9 year old gs/rotti mix.  One of the cats adores him, the other has her nose bent out of shape! She'll come around in time.  The breeder didn't want us to use her kennel name in his registered name but other than that, she didn't have any stipulations.  So, his sire's name is Ekko von Holser of High Hills and his dam's name is Hot Shot Gretchen of High Hills.  We've decided to register him as Ekko's Hot Shot Xander.  He's SUPER smart, but then again, that's why we got a German Shepherd! He housetrained within two days of his arrival...he scratches at the door and everything.  He already knows how to sit...and it is consistently...not just when I have treats.  He'll be 9 weeks on Monday the 18th.  His ears are just starting to stand up, so they're at the cute floppy stage.  I'll update more but just wanted to let everyone know how great our new addition is.

AWWW He is adorable! Like I said in the other post, some breeders will not allow you to use their kennel names. I've always thought that to be strange... Most of the bigger kennels insist on it. I was unable to find any dogs in this database with that kennel name. I am curious if you know what lines he goes back to?

It sounds like he is a very well behaved little fellow! All 3 of mine were holy terrors from their first day home LOL
My Indi just turned 4 months old and she is the devil in disguise ;-)

looking forward to hearing updates and seeing him grow up. It should be a lot of fun!

Best Wishes

Hi Stacy! I never actually asked the breeder if I "could" use her kennel name.  She just didn't sign the permission area on his AKC papers and it wasn't that big of a deal to me.  He is amazing! My shep/rotti mix is an amazing dog and Xander seems to be following in his footsteps.  I'll have to look at his papers for information on his sire's side but when I was researching him before, I remember he had a lot of Von Ritterland and Tiekerhook on his dam's side.

His dam, Gretchen, is a sable.  His sire, Ekko, is pure white and HUGE...absolutely massive! Xander weighed in at 16 pounds when he was 7 weeks 2 days old.  His paws are quite large.  I was told to expect him to be, at a healthy weight, over 100 pounds.

One of my husband's friends, a State Trooper, is a K-9 handler.  He came to check Xander out and put him through the tests that he does to choose a puppy and said that Xander would be a GREAT K-9.  Every time he comes to visit he says, "if you ever decide to part with him, I want him.  He could be my next K-9."  LOL I guess that's a compliment!  I LOVE his current K-9, Semper.  He's 9 and soon to retire....however, Xander isn't going anywhere!

Oh, also, I don't know if this would have anything to do with it but the breeder is very much well....ummm...old fashioned, I guess.  She doesn't own a computer so therefore she doesn't have the internet.  She lives TOTALLY for her dogs and doesn't have "time" she said for that technology stuff.  :)

Well it sounds like he is settling in very well and I am glad to hear it. I never tire of hearing compliments and "if you ever wanna get rid of him/her..." It's shameless I know LOL But I am very proud of my dogs

I thought your boy may have had some white genes in there by the picture...

16 pounds at 7 weeks is a big boy... Anyway glad to hear he is doing so well...Looking forward to more pictures, LOTS :-)

"HUGE" isn't a good thing. :/  The pup is adorable though and I wish you the best with him.  :)

Thanks everyone.  He's amazing and all that we had hoped for.

KileysHuman, can I ask why "HUGE" isn't a good thing? German Shepherds are supposed to be big dogs.  I mean, overweight is not a good thing but I've never heard anyone say that a "HUGE" German Shepherd is a bad thing.  He's absolutely gorgeous and fit as can be (not HUGE in the weight sense...just tall, stocky, and muscular).  His paws were massive and his head was blocky.  There really is no other way to descirbe Xander's sire, Ekko, other than HUGE and absolutely breathtaking.

I'm sure my boy is also going to be huge and stocky.  He's a tank now and has enormous feet.  My husband's trooper friend that trains K-9s stopped in again tonight and put him through some more tests...left again saying he'd take him if we didn't want him.  He knows how to sit, lay down, and sit back up from laying down.  He's doing great and STILL no accidents!
