Is food drive something you look for the dog to have naturally or is it something you think needs to be created in your dog to accomplish a certain goal?I found this video and was wondering if any others use this method of building food drive?

Good question. I would say it's natural, actually all drives in dogs are natural, we can bring them out more or less in each dog but they have to be there to begin with.

I guess what I should be asking is there any reason to imprint a puppy the way the one in the video is being imprinted?
Is the result of this type of imprinting beneficial for any type of work or sport?

I would never do it to my dog ;) but Tikerhook like strong dogs, so they bring as much of an asshole in a dog as they can. I can't comment on this type of imprinting, never tried it or seen it any one doing it. Maybe Hans or Gustav or Jim could be more helpful.

After about a day or two of starving the dog, I'd say it's natural and created.... Just messing with you.

One thing I know for sure you would not do it for your house pet ;) lol

So what are they doing in the video? Making the dogs food aggressive?

I agree drives are natural and a dog either has them or not from birth.

I would not do that to a dog and don't see the need or purpose.

I am not sure what is being done in the videos really classifies as food drive as much as guarding and protecting ones bowl. I will not have a dog that is possesive as that over anyobject since I have a child and am around children. Granted, I do not let kids pet my dog but I do not want one taught that particular technique in the video.
My dog has insane food drives and will work all day long for a morsel. My bloody fingers can attest to this. He has been this way since birth.  This is the area that I attribute food drives to, not guarding the bowl, growling etc.

Just a  tweek off topic....

But does anyone else crack up when they watch the Animal Planet shows where they get dogs off the street, or rescue a thin dog and they give them a bowl of food.  The dog inhales and chases the empty bowl across the floor.  The ACO's promptly state "It's clear that this dog hasn't eaten in days at least, maybe as long as a week... because no well fed dog goes after their food like that!!!"   I'd LOVE for them to come see my gang... 5 of the 6 eat everything except the bowl in about 2 minutes... and they do it every single meal... they never MISS a meal either!  (My Tibetan Spaniel always searches the bowl carefully for possible vegitables or maybe poison... just to be sure... before she dains to eat... but she also never leaves any)
