Dawn G. Bonome

I love the West German S/L, but want to know about the Working German Shepherd and their lines also.  I am not prejudiced about WORKING or SHOWLINES, but love the German Shepherd.
I joined the Working dog Eu site. Is there any other way to find out about the Working lines? I would like to know more about the German Working Lines. NOT, the Slovakian lines, I think that they are too hard of dog for my liking.

I tried to join a Yahoo group, (Working Dog) but never heard anything back.

I was looking at some of the W/L Breeders web-sites, and these 3 breeders have some nice looking/working dogs!

I looked at Von der Ost-West Verbindung, Von der Spree, and Von der Kinzigau. Nice dogs! Anyone own any of their dogs?
The only thing that I do not like is the raccoon look that some have.

Our club president used to own Jackie von der Kinzigau before she was retired.  I'm told she was a VERY powerful working dog and took several helpers down.  Not a pretty dog, but a very strong working dog.

Dawn,

You have my curiosity, what is the racoon look?
Do you have a link to an example of this?

Lee,
Around the eyes the hair is lighter,  and it makes the eyes look like a raccoon. If any Working people have dogs that have that look, can you pls post some pics.

That's funny, I seen many working dogs in my life, west german, Czech, Slovak, and west german and the west german that I seen were more pron to handler aggression, dog aggression, and other related aggression issues than most Czech dog I ever seen. ;). I always find Czech dogs to be more pack oriented and the only person they always hard on are the helpers lol. ;) maybe I seen the wrong type of dogs in my life. The pack orientation is what wins me over every time. Sure I seen few Czech dogs with handler aggression, but most of the time it was the handler fault. Correcting the dog: wrong timing for correction, too hard, too soft, too often, week bond etc. never seen a Czech dog with good handler to have any of these issue. As a matter of fact I found out over time that if you good handler Czech dog becomes extension of yourself, building on your confidence in her/him and on your relationship with one another and the pack as a whole. I seen hard west german lines breed to good Czech lines and producing perfect balanced dog. I myself found that crossing solid Czech dog even with west line that has aggression issues always delivers calm well balanced dog. Sure my exposure is limited, so don't take it the wrong way, this been my experience far to date, and maybe it will change one time. But I would not go and make the wrong assumption on any of the lines, different combination will deliver different results in both camps.

VHSDOGS,
The pictures are not showing up.
I went onto your web-site tho, and the sable dogs that are pictured on you Web-page have the raccoon eyes.

Who cares about racoon eyes if they care to learn about WORKING GSDs?

FORM follows FUNCTION.

IF you are interested in working dogs then consider the traits and characteristics that are required to create the foundation of a worker.

Does anyone on this board WORK thier GSD in the real world?  Or is this like fantasy football?

(No wonder when you go to LE agencies all you see are mals and a growing number of dutchies- even in GERMANY.)

Thanks,

Freemont
