I have a year old female GSD and now my daughter has fallen for a Great Dane
. Can someone tell me if there is a likelihood of any compatibility issue or any other associated problem in keeping both breeds as pets!
Thanks.

Thanks.

There shouldnt be, but if the Great Dane is a male, and your GSD isnt neutered, it isnt such a good idea. Also if you are oing to get a female Great Dane, it could cause some hassle at the start but afterwards they will calm down,
Otherwise it is perfectly fine

If they are the same sex, you could have issues. I would not just bring the new dog home, introduce them in a neutral environment. I would also have very strict rules for awhile while they adjust. a lot of dogs play nice outside of the home, and it is a different story when they now have to share.

How dominate is you GSD, how dominate is the Great Dane?? How much obedience have the dogs had? Are these dogs trained regularly. Is the Great Dane an adult? Your post is missing many important details.......
I have 2 adult intact female German Shepherds, an adult male intact GSD and an adult female Great Dane spay. One of the female GSD's was introduced to the pack as an adult. They all get along famously........they will share toys and treats. All of my dogs are well trained in obedience and we practice every day so My husband and I are the pack leaders. We are very pleased that we have had so few difficulties with our pack...........
Take your GSD and the Great Dane on a very long walk together on neutral ground. You be the pack leader and see how they interact. Stop any aggressive behavior before it has a chance to start.
Do not let them loose together until you know how they will act.
If you are really concerned, pay a dog behaviorist to introduce the dogs and direct in what you can do.

Thanks!
My GSD has had obedience training, but Great Dane is just a 2 months old male pup. The worring part is will we be able to control them during the heat period?

if he's only 2 moths it wont be a problem. But when he gets older, during the heat period, you will have to keep the female seperate from the male, because you dont want them breeding, do you?

Sitasmom,
I didn't know you had a Great Dane! Do you have a picture of her? You can email me if you don't want to hijack the thread :-) Don't think I'd ever own one but I admire them greatly.
When I get another BIG dog (once I'm back in the country) It will be Saint. I had to place mine with a family when I moved to this city (He was a true country boy!) . I miss mine dearly every single day, but at least I am in touch with his new family, and they love him to pieces.
