I just figured out my pup doesn't like Taste of the Wild. I look in the internet and went to my local pet food store and picked up some Royal Canine for GSD's. She really likes it. I'm concerned about the quality though. Any suggestions if I should try something else. She's a picky eater.

If her health is good, she looks happy, her stool is fine, don't worry. You would see problems if there were any. I'd say 55 lbs. at her age is on target. Pretty girl!

Have a look at the above website to do some research, the Royal Canin I have used but it gets slated on the above website.
The best stuff we get access too in the UK is probably Orijen, it is very good (grain free) high meat content, it's very expensive here, nearly $70 for only 30lbs.
Personally I use Arden Grange in the mornings because we're all in a rush, then BARF in the evenings, chicken wings/carcasses, oily fish, minced organs/tripe.
My pup has been on carcasses sinces he was 6 weeks, and built like a brick sh*thouse, and now only 9wks.
hope this helps

"she dose not like it" hmmm spoiled dog any one? My dogs get what I give to them, and if they don't like it they don't eat. Switching between one food to the other just because the dog dose not like it creates bigger issues later on. Royal is fine food, not top notch but good enough, same for the Taste of the wild, neither of these can compete with RAW, so i say give the dog a bone and safe your self food and health issues. BTW dogfoodanalysis.com is a garbage site that analyzes dog food based on one think which is meat content, which for me dose not matter as all the food is cooked at high temp and kills most of the nutrition values any way. High protein no grain is just new fashion nothing more. Feed raw and you dog gets all he needs and you control the quality of food.

No one can scoff at Dry Kibble, It is easy to talk about feeding Raw if you can get it at a price you can afford, Those of us me included cannot feed Raw even if we wanted too,
I guess you folks have it easy in the USA regards feeding Dogs you have more choices of Kibble and at a cheaper price we pay heavy for Kibble and out of the atmosphere if we want to feed Raw

She is spoiled I know but she was literally eating less and less to under a cup a day so I had to do something. I have her on 50% Royal Canine and 50% raw and she's doing great. She's more active and has a fuller look to her.

Steve1, ANYbody who works at it can develop sources. I rarely pay more than 50 cents a pound for raw. That's a heck of a lot cheaper than premium kibble and gets even cheaper when you factor in the reduced trips to the vet for teeth, joint, digestion, and skin problems. It DOES take a little work and creativity to manage, but eventually everyone does. Find a slaughterhouse or a grocer or something. But then, I never tried to work it out in Belgium, either. How much is chicken there? Still over two bucks a pound on sale, which is what Orijen costs?

Steve, I never looked down on people that feed dry food, hope you didn't misunderstood me in any way. I lived before in Europe I know the cost of food, if I would be still there you might be right I would not do it, but at the same time it's easier to find a slaughter house than in states, especially my area. Raw can be cheaper than dry if you do your homework. But I understand that every region has it's limitation.
Feeding raw and dry it's bad idea, raw takes 5-8 hours to digest, while dry about 18, so you leaving raw meat in dogs gut for way too long you might do more harm than good.
BTW Steve do you go fishing? Fish is great RAW food for dogs ;), do your have any neighbor that is a hunter? well another free food source. Do you own chickens? Even head and feet are not bad food for a dog. ;) I learned that if you shop around raw is quite reasonable, but than once again I am comparing only to my area. ;) You don't have to give to the dog your stake ;)

Over here in Belgium you will not find Rivers except in the Ardennes about 90 km away from me. There are no streams for the Dogs to swim in only thing here is the King Albert Canal which runs through to the Nederlands
Regards Raw i would have to travel to the other side of Belgium to get to one then i do not have space for a big freezer so Raw is out,
If i buy two Chicken portions i pay about 9 USA dollars, Two portions of Salmon Small about 3ozs each cost about 8 USA dollars, Cod is about 20 USA Dollars for one pound weight
Steak is about 28 USA dollars a kg, 2.4 lb in weight I do not know how that compares to over in the USA

My Goodness Steve,
I am going to have to buy you a small freezer and a year's worth of meat! Over here you can get a family size pack of chicken leg quarters for about 5 dollars on sale. I'm not sure the estimated weight but it is about 8 quarters. A large pack...
And steak varies by the cut and quality, but you can get a decent pack of two steaks for about 15 dollars...And the lower quality steaks for maybe 8-10 dollars.
I'm not sure on the cod and salmon, it's a bit pricey but not that much!
No wonder everyone here in the US has a problem controlling their weight. We complain all the time how expensive meat is. No more whining here! WOW...
Matt and I say we would love to move to Belgium for a year to train our dogs. I don't think we could afford to eat though!
