In a perfect world the breeder would send you another pup and tell you to keep the one you have. Just make it a female this time. It is very nice that you love your pup and he is not in a throw away home. Good for you, your parents raised a fine young person.

I agree. You're a lovely kid, we should all be so lucky. Your dog is lucky too!!

If the testicle hasn't descended by the time your pup reaches sexual maturity (7-9 mths) you should consider surgery. A retained testicle can become cancerous over time. Keep in mind also that to remove it isn't simple surgery like a neuter - it is much more invasive, with a longer recovery time. In some cases, the testicle can be attached to another organ or be hard to find........sooner rather than later is the way to go, it will be easier on your little guy while he is young. This condition is a genetic fault, so do not breed him, it can be passed on.

In no way will this affect your dog - he will be as wonderful after the operation as he was before. I think you should keep him and have a great life together!

Once the breeder gets the dog back, he will probably jus cull, or use the dog for fighting or starve it to death. So do not give it back, and wait. if it doesnt descend then call the breeder asking for money to neuter the dog.

I think you have had really good advice from some knowledgeable people.
Wait a little while to see if it decends, do not do anything rash. However if you do decide to keep the dog then get him checked as if it high up inside this can cause problems later on.

Hamz166 - You really are an idiot and are showing your lack of maturity. How can you make such a sweaping statement like this:
Once the breeder gets the dog back, he will probably jus cull, or use the dog for fighting or starve it to death. So do not give it back, and wait. if it doesnt descend then call the breeder asking for money to neuter the dog.

Do you know this Breeder? Have you exprience of this Breeder doing such a thing?

This is exactly how nasty rumours start which can totally ruin a good reputation.

I do not know this breeder but I would NEVER EVER say such a thing without concrete evidence to the fact and even then I would really watch how I worded it, if atall!

For one so young you have such bitter and twisted views of humankind. I would advise if you are going to 'be' in GSDs or any other breed of dog or even animal for that matter that you lighten up a bit and start by looking at people in a different way. Manners too, I have noticed throughout this board various threads which you have posted on where you lack common decency!  You also comment on many threads giving off the persona that you are a knowledgeable, experienced GSD owner and I know that YOU do not even own a dog. Yet on other threads you act all niave and innocent. Come on ....which is it? Are you trying to be someone you ain't or are you just pulling our chain?

You need to learn a lot of things before coming on here with snide, vicious statements like the one above, decency, humility and manners being just some of them.

Not wanting to cause a war, but I was under the impression Muslims didn't like dogs and
considered them unclean.  Was I misinformed?  I did read an article about a cab driver
in the US who did not want to pick  up anyone with a dog.  Just curious, not looking
to start trouble.  :)

Just out of curiousity, did the vet say if the testicle was just subcutaneous,(right under the skin where he could feel it), or up in the abdomen? If it is just under the skin it has a better chance of dropping. I agree, you sound like a wonderful young person who loves your pup no matter what. There is a reason that pup came to you! Enjoy your best friend! Theresa

ArtisianM,

Just keep your dog as a pet then.  I have a female that I paid alot of money for as a puppy and she is not what I thought she would be.  I love her anyway and could not give her up!  she will be my pet and companion!  I also bought a male GSD .  At the time  of the sale he had 2 testicles down when I took him to the vet, same day later only one was present.  he's almost 7 months old now and still only 1 testicale down.  I did by him for sport and possible breeding.  Will I give him up because of his shortcomings, NO.  I have bonded with these dogs and I love them.  They are part of my family, faults and all.  I will just have to persue another dog for what I want.  I know your family and beliefs are different but feelings are not!  Keep your dogs!

I agree with what everyone else says - keep him. I f you can't show him you can train him and work with him in obedience etc. if you are interested in this. If I was the breeder I would have offered another puppy without having to return the one you have, esp as you paid a lot for him. But also another point - if the missing testicle can be found by the vet it is possible that a series of hormone injetions may help it to descend, I think it is three injections every other day. This is more successful if done before 4 months but it might be worth a try. This procedure is not prohibited. Ask your vet...A friend of mine did this on a 4-5 month old puppy and actually the missing testicle was down the day after the first injection - they never needed to finish the course.

Muslims do not think that.  That is not true. By the way what you lot said about me writing the whole culling thing, my brother wrote that. I have got to change my password to stop him.
