Breed Survey question - Page 1

For a registered breeding to occur in Australia, both parents must pass a Breed Survey as in most countries which is consistant with the German SV requirements except the Australian survey requires no Schutzhund testing, no obedience or endurance testing requirements. Temperament testing comprises of a walk on leash through a dozen people and a gunfire test with a starting pistol, that's it and the dog supposedly meets the Breed Standards???

Would I be correct in saying that should the Breed Survey be consistant with the SV to include the Schutzhund, obedience and endurance requirements, that many of the dogs who pass the Australian version would fail the full SV procedure and be eliminated from breeding???.

I have to correct you on your opening statement.
Registered breedings can be done with any registered GSDs, who's owners are members of their state Kennel Control. 
There is no requirement for either of the parents to be Breed Surveyed. Breed Survey is a voluntary scheme, but fortunately, the majority of GSD breeders participate before breeding their animals.

Here in Australia, we cannot include Sch. as part of Breed Survey, because it is against ANKC policy and is indeed illegal in at least one state.
I do agree that the current temperament test for Survey  is lacking and I would like to see dogs presented to Survey with an Endurance title, as well as some sort of working title, be it Obedience, Tracking etc.

As for your last paragraph, the level of fitness required for our show dogs would easily see them pass the Endurance test. No problem there.
Whether or not they would fail the Sch. is anyone's guess. Our dogs have never been trained or tested in this area, but to assume that many would fail and be eliminated from breeding because of this, is a pretty big call.

The problem as I see it, is the Australian ANKC have adopted a criteria for the GSD that doesn't comply with the SV requirements having potential for breeding of dogs that are incorrect type and ultimately should not be bred. A few generations of breeding non work tested dogs has little chance of maintaining consistancy with the breed standards.
