Beautiful pups, but what a strange description.

Could this person mean semi long coated?

I'm sure that is what they do mean Patamoke, but in GSD, the coat is either normal or it is long.  While it is true that some longcoats have longer hair than others, if the ears are fringed, it is a longcoat.

I have a longcoat male who just crosses the line into the longcoat category. He is definitely couldn't pass as a standard coat, but is on the short side of the average longcoat.

you're all wrong.

Rexy that dog is stock coat PERIOD unless this is not your dog its a bit fuzzy picture, but i do not see long hairs

there are three types of coats:

stock coat the standard

plush coat a very thick undercoat and top coat the dog sheds eternally and its hard to see IF the  dog is ' out of coat' the dog is allowed in the show circuit.

long coat not allowed for breeding, fuzzy long hairs out of the ears and between the toes, starting to become visible at 3-4 weeks of age when their coat is really cute bear like and often have long pointy faces in young adult hood.

here a one yr old male long coat.  see all those long fuzzy hairs around his ears and neck?

This is the same male at 14 weeks old.

NO. Two coats. TWO. Stock coat. Long stock coat. Period.  Of course long stock coats has varying degrees of hair length but there are TWO, and only TWO coat types. "Plush" is a made-up terminology, just like saying "teacup" yorkie.

Another pic of my boy

Very handsome boy, but going by the pic, he lacks the tufts at the base of his ears so is not a longcoat, just has a luxurious normal coat.  Do you have any pics of him at around 4 - 6 months old?  Most longcoats have little body coat at that age which tends to show the woolly ears

Rexy, unless you are trimming his ears for the photo shoots, I can catagorically tell you, your male is not a long coat. Of course I have now no idea whether this info pleases you or not.  Perhaps you wanted a long coat, then again perhaps you always fancied showing but didnt because of the coat, either way he looks a very handsome (short coated) chap!
All the Best
