Hello,
My GSD is almost 20 weeks old. Today early in the morning before having anything to eat he vomitted a foamy thing and pieces of food.
I couldn't to get to see closely what he vomitted because he stood in a corner did it then ate it all!
Before vomitting he started to do something like a hicop, then walked towards a corner in the room and vomitted.
The last meal he had yesterday night was hamburger (raw) and potatoe and some milk. I haven't given him milk since long time ago but he snuck to the carton on the table.
The last time he vomitted was about a month ago or more.
Is it serious?Should I take him to the vet?

It should not happen often tho.

I am releived now. Actually after Sky vomitted he started playing as if nothing happened. And he had his breakfast twenty minutes ago. He looks fine.
I get so annoyed about it because Sky sneaks into the Kitchen (sometimes we forget to close its door) and I wouldn't know what he ate there.
God!

Benny is 5 months and does the exact same thing except there is no food in it. It always happens real early in the morning, shortly after waking up. He acts completely fine afterward. It's like he wakes up with a sour stomach. I am relieved to know it is not just my pup!

My male vomits about once a month too. I am switching his kibble to a sensitive stomach formula to see if this helps. He has done this since he was a puppy and scares me EVERY time.
Shepherdpal,
My dog occasionally will throw up on an empty stomach too :-/ I also wondered if it is maybe similar to when we get a sour stomach.

If the dog throw up after he eats and then he eats it again and may do it 2 -3 times
that could be a serious esophagus problem. In that case I would contact a vet. With this problem dogs does not live full life and dies early.

I haven't read anywhere that potatoes are bad for GSDs. I read many times that it can be served among the vegetables only mashed and that's what I do. I always feed sky either steamed or boiled vegetables except tomatoes, spinach and lettuce.
Hans,
No! He vomited early in the morning before having his breakfast and about 10 hours after having his last meal. And as I said he vomited about a month ago or even earlier.
Thank you everyone!

One of he things I had read before I got my first GSD was that they are prone to stomach upsets, easily... I hoped I would be one of the lucky ones, I wasn't lol
Good Luck with Sky, hope he'd feeling better now :-)
