Please see  your vet it could be mites. If it is it is better to treat before going into the winter months.
Always,
Cee

Careful not to bathe the pup too often especially with commercial shampoo as they do wash away natural oils from the skin and cause itchiness.  If you need to clean te pup, just use water.   Has your pup been treated for fleas prior to the scratching?
Best take your pup to the vets for general check up.
Excessive scratching is not common.  Could be an allergic reaction to diet, mites, hotspots etc.
Let's hope nothing serious.

Hi dee,
There is an interesting post currently in the "General Topic Forum" associated with skin problems.
Here's the link::  www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/bulletins_read/326354.html
All educational.

Another thing to look at... food, what are you feeding? what level of protein? some pups can't tolerate puppy food protein levels.

My Sky has been itching and biting.
I started to take him out on walks in the street and in gardens when he was 10 weeks old (after I gave him his first vaccine).
Later I found hot spots in his belly. Then he started itching and biting. I told the doctor and he told me it is OK if he itches and bites unless he doesn't hurt himself. Sky scratched himself during itching and wounded himself so I took him to the vet and he prescribed an antibiotic. He's been on the antibiotic for two weeks now and I am witnessing little improvement.
I am afraid that if I stop the antibiotic he'll itch all over again.

I feed Sky natural food: chicken & meat (with bones and fat), yogurt, rice, chicken soup & meat soup + crumbs of bread, sweet potatoes, carrots, tomato.

I bathe him with Johnson's bedtime Bath (once a week) and when he comes back from walks I give him a quick shower with water + few drops of Dettol.
The reason I shower him so much is that it is VERY hot in the summer in Egypt and he starts to smell few days after bathing with Bedtime Bath. Walking in the street can be contagious to him on many levels and using Dettol assures me that his skin remains healthy and clean. But I will cut down on bathing to once every two weeks but will have to continue with Dettol.
I will also give him Selenium (for the skin) and Centrum.

I am starting to watch his diet and environment and find out what causes allergy. I started with wheat products and it proved negative. Time to try the chicken. I will stop the antibiotic since I have a very strong feeling that it won't work and the vet wants me to come back and pay him more!!!
If I am doing all the reading and analysis on Sky’s health’s and figuring out answers that the vet won’t tell me, what are vets for then?
