Poor, poor dog!  Thank god he has you!  Really  just breaks my heart that someone could let him go like this.

Thank you VM!

I do it out of guilt for my occasional breeding. :(
The poor thing is about 2 years old (best guess) and 45 lbs.

My very first GSD (my first dog, too) was a female that was 26 inches tall. At the time I adopted her, she weighed 35 lbs.! She also had pannus. The vet told me he didn't think she was going to live. She hadn't been abused, just neglected by her owner, who was senile, and eventually had to go into a nurisng home.

Don't despair: she DID bounce back with a little TLC, and made a wonderful, gentle pet:

I am sure this boy will do the same!

Thanks for that, Sunsilver. Makes me less angry. Who knows what actually happened...

Teufel Hunde

I've seen horrible things done to animals in my many years working at shelters/animal control. This little guy was thrown out in the dead of winter in a corn field at only 4 months old with his littermate and somehow survived for almost 2 months until caught. Although he had a pink nose, was cow hocked , twirled in his kennel constantly and was afraid of EVERTHING. The only thing he expelled the first few days was corn stalks and garbage.

Naturally, I had to have him. Within 2 months  his nose went black, his legs straightened out (did x-rays anyway)and he became one of the fastest learners I have EVER worked with. My old Sheherd took him under his wing and he just blossomed. He is now 5 years old and although he is only the size of a small bitch, his spirit is the size of the Grand Canyon.
