I have a 7 month female that is short coat black/Tan - I believe she was mix with show-working line - also she has gene pure black german shepherd as well.

I have a 7 month male that is black/tan short coat - he has mix gene with long-coat german shepherd and show-line GS black/red gene color.

So in the future when I breath them together, what will I get, I have black/tan and pure black from dam gene and I have black/tan and black/red gene and long-coat gene. What is the results will be for the puppys.

Shtal,
I have been watching your posts and have not commented, but here I have to ask.

Have you asked yourself HOW breeding those 2 dogs together, you will be BETTERING the breed? (They are not within the breed standard, at all)

Do you plan on having health clearances before you breed them? (Hips/Elbows, for one example)

By  your posts I am assuming that you are automatically breeding them, as you are very proud they are oversized (the male anyway). I sincerely hope you worry more what TYPE of puppies you will be producing rather than the colors/coat length they will produce.

Also you apparently do not know very much about their pedigrees. You say you "believe" the bitch is show/working cross. I would suggest you do some research about your dogs lineage before thowing them together to mate.

On another note, I do have to say your dogs look  well cared for. It's obvious you love them :)

It would be my recommendation to enjoy your dogs as companions, and not breed them.

Having said that.....the Saddle or black & tan / black & red is a more dominant allele/color variant than Black.  Both dogs would have to carry the Black gene to have some black pups, which isn't to say both dogs would have to be black, as Blacks are the least dominant (recessive) gene....two Blacks would only produce black.

Again, I would not breed these dogs,  but if you did, I would expect Saddle patterned dogs with some potential for coats based on what info you've provided....I would not expect Blacks.

This message for stacy.

The guy that I bought the female from he said it was show line german shephered. I do have a pedigree for it. But the reason I said it was show/working line is because she has a crazy energy like a working line; she always wants something to do - very hyper - so I made my own assumption about her.

I want to push the limits - I will let you know in the future if I have any luck; and Is it against law of physics??

No hard fellings please:) "I will make an experiment and do you have a problem with that?"

best regards,

Shtal:)

Hi Shtal

Don't mistake hyperactivity for high drive.

If you post your dogs pedigrees, then it would be possible to make an educated guess at whether you could get black or long coat.

Hi Shtal,

No hard feelings here. Whether I have a problem with your experimenting, shouldn't be an issue for you. Because I am a "nobody" and if I said "yes I have a problem with this!" ...you would not care :) So instead I suggest you  study your pedigrees and health test male and female. Make sure they are st least structurally and mentally sound.

Also by studying EACH dog in your dogs pedigrees you can find out what good and bad traits each line carries. If both have certain medical issues in their ancestry, you are going to double your chances of the pups having said issue(s).  Unfortunately BAD traits will turn up a lot more frequently than the GOOD traits. People who have been breeding for many years can tell you, that they stay up nights for weeks, months sometimes a year or more, trying to plan breedings to BETTER the breed.

Also by breeding to better the breed, rather than experimenting for size and coat color....I would exect one to follow the breed standard as much as possible, make sense?
Again, I don't hold any hard feeling toward you. I am just trying to offer up some advice without being ugly.

~Stacy
