I know my female gets a dry nose if she's been digging. She uses it to nose the dirt around, and this dries her nose out. She also gets a dry nose if she has irritation from fleas, mosquitoes etc. and is chewing at her skin a lot. I guess the hair irritates the nose and dries it out. I'd say it's nothing to worry about unless the nose is cracked and bleeding. A little bit of vaseline on the nose might help if it's really bad.
If your dog has a pink nose, it can get sunburned, and this will dry the nose out too. You should use sunscreen on the dog's nose if this is what's happening. But of course, no GSD SHOULD have a pink nose!

Thank you very much, the nose is not pink or cracked or bleeding. It is simply dry. But we have fleas around our area cause from cows and geese and chickens.
