11 OUT OF 21 ATTENDED THE MEETING

BOLTON
DERBY
BIRMINGHAM
ESSEX
NORTH WALES
SOUTH WESTERN
SHEFFIELD
PRESTON
BAGSD
KENT
SATS
HOV

The reports I am receiving appear to indicate that the meeting was somewhat lacking in detail and substance. As I would have expected.

At the end the meeting  Kennel Club Vice Chairman Bill Hardaway indicated the Kennel Club may be writing to the GSD Breed Clubs asking them if they want to drop the name
"Alsatian" - The GSD Partnership certainly made it clear to the Kennel Club, last year, that most clubs wanted the name "Alsatian" removed. Perhaps the KC suffer from "delayed response syndrome" (DRS).

So they "may write"  - I can just see the KC people thinking "lets just keep these nasty GSD clubs dangling on a string again - then we will bring in another directive"!

Its not just the Partnership that asked that - its been requested for as long as I can remember and I wouldnt mind betting it will not happen.

What i find sad is that my club voted in favour of signing with a huge majority then they cant be bothered to turn up for the meeting mind you it is no more than i thought it was just about keeping their tickets not about anything else and it is a sad but true reflection of most of the clubs that did sign CCs are more important that the future of our breed. The KC have said before that they will remove Alsation from our breed name i think the first time was 1986 or there abouts.

I am sure that five of those attending would have been in favour of dropping the name Alsation under previous circumstances.

One club that went will be standing on the fence and finding out first what the KC would like them to do

The others I dont know which way they would prefer

One thing I do know is that SENSIBLE BREEDWORTH AWARE PEOPLE have already dropped the name Alsation, as the WUSV.SV.FCI  dont have a translation for it, and dont have it appear anywhere in their rules regulations, or on any documentation at all, and we are all beavering away at our new style correct type of shows which look after the breed rather than themselves....

Speaks volumes.

12 out of 21 is pretty sad really, shame all 21 didnt show up. None the less, I have to agree with Bazza, just what will they want in return for dropping the word 'Alsatian'? Not spoken to Will since the early 80's but it would be very interesting to see what he makes of all this 'off the record'.

The sooner the KC realise there is no backing down the better

SATS "Southern Alsatian Training Society" - (Bill Hardaway's club) went as far as saying they have thought about their own problems if the name Alsatian is dropped - so they have come up with a novel alternative "Southern Area Training Society" (SATS) - bless them!

"Signed to save their CC's"? - when the GSD League introduce "British Champion Certificates" (BCC) & Reserve British Champion Certificates" (RBCC) - we will see which way those clubs that "signed" JUMP.

My advice would be for them to revisit their "signing" with their members and "un-sign" as soon as possible. I offer my advice on an appropriate letter to the Kennel Club for this purpose.

The "signed" clubs are very likely to "miss out" on our GSD breeds very exciting future. They should have NO concerns about "Obedience Championship status" for their obedience members. Birmingham & District GSD Club committee were completely misled on this aspect - an all too common problem throughout our GSD breed.

The future of the Kennel Club Champion title amongst our "Correct International GSD Breed" here in Great Britain will be completely over-shadowed by the much more meaningful title GSDL/WUSV "BRITISH CHAMPION" Title.

I would also strongly urge anyone and everyone involved with our GSD breed here within Great Britain to join and become a member of the GSD League of Great Britain - for our breeds future.

Why are the clubs that signed likely to miss out. Surely they will be able to have their cake and eat it, by entering GSDL/WUSV shows as well?

I really don't think there will be any price to pay for this latest offering.  This is what the KC have come up with as a sort of "olive branch"... look what we'll do, you just have to be good peeps.   Oh, they may be kind of OK about "losing us"... it's the breeds that will follow that have got them scratching at their tweedies!

Of course there will be no takers, but it'll be interesting to see what they come up with next to try to tempt us!
