Has anyone had much experience with Nero blood lines, good or bad ?

by hodie on 20 April 2010 - 03:04

Bea,

For at least a while, Nero progeny could not be registered due to some problem with Nero and alleged wrongdoing which I think involved surgery. Silbersee, for example, might be able to comment, or you might like to use a search engine to look him up. At one time, years ago, we had a lengthy discussion about him here as well. But I cannot remember the jist of it all.

Nero was awarded VA in Germany when it was disclosed that one of the owners had taken him to the vet who performed surgery in the front. The SV banned all Nero offspring from breeding. After a public outcry, the SV changed its decision to only ban progeny which were born after the date of the surgery. Therefore, there are a few good sons and daughters out there which carry on the line's good attributes. I wonder sometimes what direction Nero could have gone would that not had happen. Here in the U.S., we have Teejay von Wilhendorf as a Nero-son. I had a litter with him and was very happy with the results. There were only three puppies in there (2 males and 1 female) but all had good hips and elbows and super nice temperament. One, Mick had to be placed in a pet home after an accident which destroyed a growth plate in his front leg but Marko and Mona are both a-normal, ED-normal, KKL1 and V-rated. The pigment in these dogs is unbelievable. Deep red and lots of black markings. Here is a photo of Marko from last weekend (my 12 year old daughter took it), and he was the lightest one of them. Markos bitework can easily be compared with that of workinglines: hard, full mouth and absolutely no hesitation.

I bred to a Teejay son, Vauxhall vom Hohlen Hugel. The girl I kept back is better than I could have imagined! Cassie von der Koenig Haus, has inherited the best qualities from both sides. Theresa

It was Nero's elbow that the surgery was preformed on. Great dog, so sad!
