my gsd is 6 yrs old and NOT having any orthopedic problems, vet suggested giving glucosamine as a supplement and preventive, i have never given my dog any supplements before, he is 117lbs and has been on raw and i mean RAW diet since 8 weeks of age, if you use glucosamine, how much? how often? where do ya get it? is there any difference between human grade and vet. grade besides the price? never believed much in supplements in 40 yrs of owning gsd's, not a breeder, just a obsessed gsd lover. thanks

Our Kiri is on glucosamine and chondroitin. My vet always recomends using both together . She 11.5yrs old and in my opinion rather heavy at 35kg. I feelit helps her with the genearl stiffness of old age!

We buy ours from a vet supply store (with prescription), it's cheaper that way. Instead of $118.00 per bottle, it's $40.00. The brand we use is called Cosequin. It's fairly common and easy to find. I read an article comparing the commonly prescribed brands, they ranked Cosequin as number 1. I'll see if I can find it for you.....
I think it's probably cheaper and better quality to just buy human grade glucosamine in bulk, via health food store. We're looking into doing that.

The Cosequin I found the best prices to be on Ebay so I buy enough for about a year then go do my Ebay shopping 1 year later all over again. It does help thats for sure.
