For those of you that read about Lolas mystery illness. Some questions have been answered. Her temp is down, she is coming off painkillers and will remain in hospital until Wednesday to make the pain has gone. No conclusion as to what that was - or why the high temp.
The bad news it seems is that the left hindleg - the one without pain but with a strange flick and gait - has muscular contracture. This I understand is a rare thing - and I am hoping that there is someone out there who may be able to help/advise on the potential progess of this. I understand that surgery is possible but often the contracture reappears after a while. Does anyone have any thought on what I could try - hydrotherapy / acupuncture/ physio? Also any advice on how much / what type of exercise she should / shouldnt have. She is a pet and does not do any schutzhund or agility - just the normal social things a young lively GSD likes to do.
I said some questions were answered - in fact we still do not know why she had the pain and discomfort - and why she had the high temp - maybe we'll never know.
With thankslola

Lola , What dog food are you feeding her ? Are you feeding anything extra like calcium pills or supplements ?

Too much calcium can cause issues with the heart and mucles is why I am asking, let alone bones and pano etc.

( ok darn it spell checker is not working for me today, please bare with me)

That's not an acronym, it's the name of a muscle in the pelvic region : www.baltimoredogmag.com/content/view/40/1/

Many thanks for the suggestion regarding Psoas - and Sunsilver for the interesting article.
I am very happy and excited as today I collect my Lola from the hospital.
I shall be seeing the Physio - to discuss Lolas exercise regime and the soft tissue surgeon to talk about their findings.
They have so far only told me that on her left hind leg she has muscular contraction. This was giving her the strange gait.
They do not know why she had the other terrible pain in right leg (although they say that xray show she has some hip dysplasia there and slight muscle wastage) - and also around her groin. It has all now seemed to have disappeared and she is back to her old self again.
I will ask them as many questions as possible - and anything which I feel might be of general interest I will post on this site. I found a very interesting report about muscle contraction the link is below.
I am still very keen on hearing from anyone who has a dog that has suffered from this - mainly to let me know how best to cope with it - one thing is for certain Lola will NOT from now on be allowed to charge at 90 miles an hours after her ball or frisbee - she was born without brakes - more gentle games from now on! so any suggestions on that line of thought will be very welcome. I have done a little tracking with her so that might be a good thing.

(had to type this out as cant seem to cut and paste this so hope it works!)

Sorry, have not logged in since posting the question. Busy performing the swear word("work").
Thank you Sunsilver for filling in during my abscence...:)
If Psoas related then advice is most likely to be a period of rest followed by light exercise and then quite possibly a number of trips to hydrotherapy to build things up again. :)
