i was very slow to jump on the bandwagon.  back in the early 90's, when everyone was putting fero blood into their breeding programs, i was afraid they were painting themselves into a corner.  i remained on the fence and waited to see which sons and grandsons proved to be producers.  year after year we are seeing fero progeny even to the 4th & 5th generation excel at BSP and WUSV.  troll is one of my personal favorites.  timmy/troll breedings are proving to be very successful.  aly has remarkable hip production records.  yoschy gives civil aggression and the ability to switch from prey to defense effectively.  so on and so on.  from my own experience, i am not fond of the mink/fero breedings.  however, there are folks who have bred and trained these dogs very successfully.  to address your question about linebreeding.......i see nothing at all wrong with linebreeding on troll so long as the two dogs in question are worthy of breeding.  if either of them are not fit candidates, as individuals, they should not be bred.  but to speak in general terms, linebreeding on troll can produce some fine dogs.

I am with VM on this. :-)
Even though I am new to the breed, my first male is linebred 5,4 on Troll through Yoschy. He is three years old and I just started Sch. 6 months ago with him and he is an absolute natural!!! He is learning faster than me and loves to work. Excellent food and ball drives. He is also very social. So I was pretty much hooked on this line and got a female....
My 8 month old female is 4,5 on Troll, also through Yoschy and she is very much the same as my male as far as drives, but already more serious as far as protection and possessiveness, which I think she gets from both her sire and dam. But again she too has an excellent disposition towards people, but also is very focused and sure of herself when it's time to work.
I am also getting a year and a half old female who is 3,5 on Yoschy, and although I don't have her yet I have been told a lot about her and will be looking forward to posting more about her once I do.
As Ziegenfarm said, Timmy/Troll breedings are proving to be very successful in sport.

Hey guys!

To add to the question, here is the pedigree of my male pup.

Eric Vicona.

He is only going on 9 months old and is very intelligent, very sound about situations and I love him to death.  The question is, did you find your Troll progeny (particularly the males) to be slow in maturing?  He's a lovely puppy but he just seems very, very immature compared to how my Galant z PS daughter was at the same time and the same age.

rlhar,  it has been my experience that some of the fado dogs are a bit slower to maturity - particularly the males.  i have also found this to be true of some tom leefdalhof progeny.  fado may be to the foot of that in your dog.  at 9 months, he is still very young and should be exhibiting puppy behavior.  also, please understand that slow rate of maturity is not a bad thing.  it is just an individual thing and requires a bit of patience on our part.  very often, the slower maturing dogs develop into fine, stable dogs.  they just take their sweet time.  (by the way, i love eik on your pup's sire line!)

Ziegan,

Thank you so much for the comment!

My female was quite precocious in terms of drive and intensity and she was my first GSD and Sch dog.  I love my boy (and yes part of why I got him was Eick) and my gut keeps telling me he's just taking his time to mature and not to fret it too much.  I have just been curious if this was normal in the lines.

Quite probably, the best bloodline of our time.  If there was one bloodline this breed couldn't do without, for me this would be it.  I would pay very close attention to what lines compliment this one well, because it's impact on the breed is too great to ignore.
