As one of the judges for this show, I received this letter from the Association dated 26/03/10

Dear Shirley

CHAMPIONSHIP BREED SHOWS 5th June 2010

The Executive Committee regret to inform you that the above show has unfortunatley been cancelled.

I hope that this has not caused any inconvenience to you.

Yours truly,

Kathleen Hood (Show Secretary)

As a judge of this show, I find this letter insufficient in terms of explanation and will write to the Association and ask for clarification. I had e-mailed the Association asking whether the KC statement referred to their show and when would they be letting the judges know. I was told that a letter was going in the post that night (as above) and a PS to this letter said that the reason for delaying in letting us know was they were waiting to make sure that the KC had received the returned licences and CCs

As an ex-member of the committee I know that without myself, Mum and Zep the EC do not have anyone who really knows how to run a breed show. Although we resigned from the EC at the AGM after the decision to sign the KC undertaking we did offer to run the show on behalf of the Association rather than have it cancelled but we were informed that we were not needed.

I was approached by Dog World after the last KC statement as they felt that the cancelled show that was referred to in that was BDGSDA and the reason cited was fear of disruption from those angry about the undertaking. I was asked whether such disruption was ever threatened by us or on this database. I explained that this was not the case - why would we want my first Champ show appointment disrupted?

Following everything that was written on this forum after Birmingham and Districts AGM  how can anyone be surprised if the current committee didn't want to accept the help apparently offered?
If you can vouch that EC dont have anyone compitent, then perhaps this is the right decision for the club to be making?  I am sure they would much rather NOT put on a show than put on one that stood the chance of being picked to pieces for any short comings.

I was asked about the KC statement to the effect that a breed club had cancelled its Ch show due to the fear of disruption by a few people unhappy about their decision.   The breed club was not named, so I telephoned the KC and asked them if it was so.   It was confirmed to me, by a member of the show department, that the reason that Birmingham and District GSD Assn had cancelled their show was because they feared reprisals from the members that did not agree with the signing of the undertaking.

I am appalled that this should be said to the Kennel Club.  This is an outright lie, and very slanderous without reason.   No threat has ever been made to that effect, and indeed, as Shirley rightly says above, we have written confirmation, from ourselves, to Mrs K Hood, General Secretary, that we were willing to carry on and organise the show, as we are still members of the Assn and indeed, I am show secretary and havent resigned from that positon.   I was told curtly by email that our services were not required.   I had the schedule ready to go to Fosse Data, and the schedules were to be out for Crufts.

My resignation was due to the illegal way in which the vote was taken by the association.  Personally, I think that they should be taken to task regarding the fact that they have a firm rule that any person owning other than a GSD is called an Associate Member and in that pays a reduced membership and has no voting rights.   These were the people that Mrs Hood shipped in by the boat load, never having been seen before at a meeting, rigged, to vote to sign the agreement, and if Shirley Zep and ourselvers had been just as devious, we could have asked all of Lichfield Branch to come en mass and vote in the opposite direction as we made no secret of it that at our branch AGM all of our members voted not to sign the agreement.
We didnt do this as we wished for the vote to be done fairly, it isnt the end of the world if it is signed -  but I now wish in hindsight that we had insisted on finding out who everyone was in the room, and how many of them were Associate members as opposed to full members.   I am told on good authority, there would not have been many voting members among them.  THAT IS WHY I RESIGNED

To work with an E.C. that does not trust its fellow colleagues for no reason, and rigs meetings to suit their needs is not healthy and this is a voluntary position that we put ourselves in  - why would anyone need to work in that way for a hobby.

I do intent to make my complaint formal to the Kenel Club regarding the lies that have been given to save themselves from being fined.   Mo

Zac

I am not sure why you seem intent on nipping at Mum and I over this but as you remain steadfastly anonymous then I guess we will never know and will have to take comfort from the impression that I get you are generally out of kilter with the majority of those on the database who have the courage to put a name to their comments.

1 am stedfast anonymous too but i know the truth you tried your best zep mo and shirley to be raesonable and it got threw back in your face cos they wanted you to go to get on with their obedeince   you were a pain in the backside with your forward thinking if keith hood were still alive this cud not have happened
you shud know who u are dealing with
they had a meeting a week after you resigned and were so not wanting you to come to the meeting in case to do the ch show they asked one of the ec members to meet them on a car park . she is a freind of you and they would not tell that person where it was in case you were told and they took her to a new place to have the meeting
that member is also gettin reddy to resign because of a special meeting they held to change a rule without sendin you an invite and it was when you were busy runnin the koerung so u couldnt get to it
i will tell you a lot by pm mo or shirley as this bord doesnt nunderstand the lenths the secretary is going to like ringing up the obedience man at leicester gsd and askin him to get his friends to the lecester agm to vote agenst show poeple btw that did not work as i heard lester voted full on not to sign the letter for kc  she has rung me and told me some wicked bits that i no are untrue but i have said nothing up to now all because i work my dog

Hutch, I remain anonyamus on this board because this board rules allow me to do so. I am voicing a point of view so who or what I am should be irrelevant. BTW Zac is my middle name, so not strictly anon

I really cant understand why the cancellation of this champ show would bother you? No CC's were always going to be the case (as of next year) if the out going EC members had their way and refused to sign KC's contract.
I guess we had better all get used to the idea that there'll be fewer shows next year.

I think that the show would have been run by border collie people, so why are we worrying about it being cancelled?  I was at crufts and the atmosphere round the ring was flat - do we really want to show somewhere we will be unable to show our dogs to their best advantage?  Signing the agreement means no double handling.

However I do think that the committee should have had the balls to admit they didnt want to run a show, not that they were frightened.    I know how much Mo, Shirley & Zep put in and it has been thrown in their faces, but leave the Birmingham GSD club to the border collie people.

I for one am looking forward to the many regional shows put on by forward thinking German Shepherd people.
