Where can I get more info about influential studs? I'm not referring to score books, breed survey, or videos, rather personal characteristics about the dog, things we don't experience during trails. As well as traits that they were always able to pass to most of his litters. I read an article about Lord vom Gleisdreieck and was very happy to know more about him. Any body knows of articles or opinions written about other studs?

Thank you,

What kind of traits? Do you mean the good ones or the bad ones, too, lol? Maybe you want to give a "for instance" of a Lord vom Gleisdrieck personality quirk or rather personal characteristic (which is it?) that was of interest to you. I think this is an interesting topic, if you can get any breeders to talk, that is.

I found this resource, not just studs though.

American lines (yuck!)

Sometimes it's productive to target a few specific dogs and research each of them in depth.  There's no single source for a large quanity of producers that I can think of for german workinglines, but would be pretty nice if there were.  Here's a weblink that lightly details a few nice ones http://www.vomtauglichkeit.com/german-shepherd-studs.html

Does he get along with children and small animals?

Is he stable? Does he take advantage of the handler?

Number of males vs. females in his litters, ear faults, testical faults, and dentition faults in his progenies

His drives? Which drives he has and are they balanced?

Does linebreeding to this particular studs leads to weak progenies at any level?

The pups he sired are smarter or stupider?

The sutd is half of the equation but they are sometimes recommended for passing certian traits to their litters, such as, better hips, traninability, pigment, etc.................

Here are a few studs to get started, if you know anything about any of them please mention it:

Tom van't Leefdaalhof

Orry von Haus Antverpa

Troll von der bösen Nachbarschaft

Fero vom Zeuterner Himmelreich

Don vom Clausberg

Tino vom Felsenschloß

Ernst vom Weinbergblick

Asko von der Lutter

Gent od policie

If you like any others studs not mentioned, list them please!

Could you provide any info on these dogs, B.Andersen?

by B.Andersen on 06 January 2010 - 01:01

These are all dogs I look for in pedigrees. All strong dogs that could and have been line bred on to improve any trait needed without  a negative influence. IMO Berndt was the best gsd period and produced great dogs.

The only dog I listed that does not go to Bernd as far as it can be traced is Arys z Travnickova Dvora

The problem comes when sorting thru the info offered and the sources.  Some people will give honest unbiased info on both the good and bad traits, the strength and weakness of each dog as a sire and what lines they seem to "click" with... while others will take it as a chance to attack an individual sire  based on who owned him, or perhaps a pup, or grandpup they had or knew of... without knowing the other genetics which are part of the equasion or the owners/handler/trainers who developed the dogs and what might be their fault, rather than the fault of the dog.  Making statements about a dog being nervy, or handler aggressive or not good with kids or other dogs... opens the person making the statement up to all kinds of backlash.

Not having any direct contacts with European breeders/owners I've based much of my own opinions on dogs I've noticed repeatedly in the background of dogs I like, or that people I respect seem to like. (Unfortunately I'm looking @ working lines, but my own background is in conformation so all I can look at is videos, photos and competition scores)  Amoung the dogs I seem to keep coming back to in pedigrees are:

Tom van't Leefdaalhof www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/388354.html

V Yoschy von der Döllenwiese www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/13891.html

V Falk von den Wölfen  www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/123666.html

same can be said for a couple of bitches....
