I have a 18 weeks female GSD. She is currently on Wellness Puppy Large Breed and I'm thinking of switching her to Royal Canine German Shepherd Puppy # 30. Please give me your thoughts on which is a better food.

Wellness, by a mile!
Why are you thinking of switching?
Why are you thinking of switching?

I'm thinking of switching because her stool is soft off and on. I also have not found a pet store that sells the 30 pound bag. I'm currently paying about $45.00 for a 15 pound bag. I want her to get the best nutrition possible. she is healthy and full of energy . She is 18 weeks and just weighed in at a solid 47 pounds. I'm a little against the GSD Royal canine, because the protein level is 30 %.....................way too high!! But it's made just for GSD puppies, so it's kind of confusing.

I had a pup with loose stoll on wellness, too. The ingredients in Royal Canin just don't impress me. I switched the pup to Fromm and she did great. I feed Taste of The Wild now, the pacific stream formula I *think* is 25% protein if that concerns you.

A lot of people here do not seem to think much of Royal Canin but my dogs of all ages (all but one who is allergic) do very well on it, its definitely one of the best foods we can get here. However, we use the large breed food (puppy and adult) rather than the german Shepherd which was too expensive and is no longer available. For a while several years ago the german Shepherd 24 formula was available here, I used it occasionally before shows as it tended to give them really shiny coats quickly, but the price was very high and I was concerned about the soy protein in it. I have not had experience with Wellness, and not many quality foods are available here but I have no problems with RC.

Wellness was good but a bit dry for my older dog when he was on it. Maybe try switching to a Wellness adult instead of the puppy and see if that firms things up? Over-eating can sometimes cause loose stool too.
