Hello,
I'm looking for examples of VA rated dogs that hold HGH titles. I am having trouble finding any dogs of recent. If anyone could provide some names of VA rated dogs with HGH titles it would be appreciated.

If you would consider a V2 HGH dog, there's Galaxy v Ajaye.

I sincerely doubt you will find any now. Xitta achieved VA because she was subsequently titled in SchH. From Karl Fuller's site:
""Xitta" was a pure working dog with the sheep, when I presented her for the first time at the HZS, where she achieved V4 in the GHKL. At the evaluation, quote the Bundeszuchtwart, Hermman Martin: " I would have placed this dog VA, had she also had a SchH title, not just the HGH." Thereupon, I had Edzard Müller train "Xitta" through SchH3 IPO3 FH. The following year, "Xitta" achieved VA3. As much time was spent for competitions and shows, I was not able to breed "Xitta" as much as I would have liked to."
You will find V1 HGH dogs, since the BSZS has an HGH class and awards the V1 rating. I would be curious if there are still any dogs in the "working class" that have HGH titles and are earning V-ratings without SchH titles. It seems based on the quote above that not having SchH titles as well knocks a dog out of the running.

Which stinks, considering (to the best of my understanding) that only one or the other is required.

I'm sure it has to do with the level on training, Xeph. After all, a SchH1 is NOT eligible for VA, and a dog must be SchH3 to obtain VA more than once. If an HGH is comparable in terms of wrok, pressure, and training to a SchH1 only , it makes perfect sense. Perhaps someone more experienced in HGH than I can explain to us the comparable difficulty between and HGH and the 3 levels of schutzhund.

Rezkat has a HGH, SchH3 male (Ike). Hopefully she will respond to this thread and answer your question regarding the difficulty between a HGH and 3 levels of Schutzhund. She also has a novice AKC Rally title on him. She has done some very impressive work.

I think it stinks too, Xeph. Though it makes sense since the herding class at the BSZS are V-rated and not given VAs. Most of the dogs do have some SchH training though, because they need to do the bitework tests for their Koerungs and I believe there is a bite/protection in the HGH? My breeder owns a BSZS Herding class Siegerin, 12 times HGH titled, and sometimes she comes out to work protection at our SchH club. She is actually quite hard, more serious than many of the dogs there training SchH.
Considering how quickly I see some show dogs miraculously go from nothing to SchH3 *eyeroll*, I can't believe that the HGH is any easier/quicker....

Yes, there is some bitework in HGH trial, just not to the level of sch. If my memory servesme, it is the attack out of the blind and/or maybe a long bite, I can't remember now. So, yes, there is some bitework there, not a whole lot, but some.

I believe the protection requirement has recently been discontinued in the HGH. I just went through the regulations on the SV website and could not find the requirement. I don't know the reason why it was discontinued.
It was still a requirement in 2006 and the judge tells the show chair exactly what he wants to see in the bitework. They want to see a dog that engages. It is not a typical SchH1 routine.
A dog with an HGH does not have to do a BH or AD.
If you ever have a chance to see a HGH trial, do. It is a rare thing to experience and I hope that it is with us for many more years to come. Having a HGH conformation class at the Siegershow in my estimation is very important. Unfortunately the classes have few spectators. It is just a part of the history and not the focus anymore.
