Just a few thought’s, we all know that when you come on this forum you do so at your own risk, with so many anonymous morons who take great delight in spewing their vile lies and rumours, would it not be worth the GSDP starting a proper web site with a forum where you would have to register with your name address etc and with say an initial payment of £25 then a yearly payment of say £10 this web site should also contain a data base of all our dogs, health tests etc and also of potential dangers in the doubling up of suspect lines of inherited diseases it could be a way of us all communicating with each other and also would mean you would be held accountable for what you say on the forum so no anonymous morons just exhibitors breeders and enthusiasts of this breed, clubs would be able to tell members where meetings etc are going to be I think it is something worth talking about and there is room for expansion to include a host of other things.

I think you should PM tigermouse she also came up with a good idea for advertising litters last week, maybe the 2 of you should get your heads together and combine both ideas.

Hi Jim, I think I'm right in saying, that the GSDP have a site under way, though I don't have any idea of what the content will be.

I think it's vital that the information you suggest, is held by such a body as the GSDP and available for comparison by all who register.

Re Database

Our Dogs are running a story on the Kennel Club's long term strategy which they have just announced. Amongst other things it includes an aim to develop a much more detailed database including health tests, DNA tests, in-breeding and Estimated Breeding Value.

Whilst I am sure that many will feel that the Kennel Club is highly likely to **** this up and abuse it, there is no doubt that they are in a much stronger position to set it up and fund it than the GSDP and have the clout to get vets etc to contribute. I say the GSDP should be given a strong mandate by all breed clubs to help steer the Kennel Club in the right direction on this initiative and to drive change along rather than lose focus on what it was set up for.

(Don't forget that RI will not be in charge of the KC forever and maybe we could one day see an enlightened chairperson who worked for the good of dogs rather than the good of themselves!)

Re Forum

I am sure many would welcome a forum which was not anonymous and was policed more than this one. This is such a great site and is so well known it is a pity that it isn't changed to try and control those using it more. I am sure a few would fall along the wayside as they really just want a fight but the interesting debate could continue....

Thanks Mark3

I wasn't sure this link would work as I could only find the article in the member's area so I thought it would be restricted in some way.

Shirley, nothing would be better than the KC making it mandatory re: the two tier registration system; as put to them by our GSDP, but they haven't even bothered to reply to them!  Could they (KC) be thinking about making it look like their own idea / work?

I have no faith in the KC to get anything right for dog welfare, but £££££s ring their bell, so... you never know.

The KC having a long term Health Strategy sounds like good news but unless they are going to refuse to register litters from parents that have not undergone MANDATORY health checks, wouldnt the whole KC health Strategy senario a bit hypocritical? Are we saying the Health status of all dogs are going to be on the KC website, even those identified as having Health problems or passing problems on? And if so, will the KC still encourage these dogs to be used by registering their progeny? As well as still allowing judges to endow them with CC;s and the covetted Champion titles? We can but wait, watch and wonder.
Regards
Sue
