Hello,

I have always thought he was a GSD mix but several people think he may have Plott Hound in him as well.  Given the consensus that the DNA tests are worthless, I thought I would ask you who know GSD's best.  He is very mellow, but does have a pronounced herding instinct.  Not that this is definitive proof, but when his ears are held upright, he certainly has a GSD look.  If not GSD, any thoughts?  He was a rescue so I realize it's possible he's many different breeds...  thanks for any ideas!

Here are some pictures:

The curled up tail carried over the back makes me think he has some husky in him.  He does appear to have sort of a german shepherd face and ears.  To me if he were part plott hound his ears would be much bigger and more rounded.  However,  I would think if he were shepherd/ husky since both breeds have erect ears his ears would stand.

It's a possibility.  He does have some GSD looking features.  By the way, if you care for this dog at all get the weight off of him.  It's disgraceful to let a dog get into this shape.

I'd guess Plott hound X GSD too, because his face is very GSD.

To me he looks to have some brindle color in there.  Which could be many different dogs.  He could have GSD in there.  The black saddle and his head & face would make me say some shepherd but it's so hard to say as other breeds can bring the same physical characteristics.   He could be a mix of GSD, Akita, Greyhound ( muzzle doesn't show it but only brindle color)  (Akita with the tail curl)  Also,  There are alot of other breeds that have a black saddle so it's really hard to say.
He could have some husky in there but, hard telling not knowing.  You can only just guess what's in him.  If he's a good dog to you and for you then just love him for what he is.  ( even if you don't know exactly what he is) He's YOUR dog.

I'm thinking all 3 maybe a husky/shepherd mix with a hound.  That would give you that curly tail, shepherd face, and flopped ears.

That black-saddle/brindle is also a Catahoula color; had a couple myself. Very common color around my area, but they are not quite so hairy, so maybe GSD thrown in. Those are Catahoula ears. Sorry, can't get the link thing to work right now.

Leelee - I do believe you have yourself an Anatolian Shepherd Dog.     (very pretty one too!)
