Okay, I'm new here but was hoping that someone could offer some insight.

I am looking to adopt a GSD Puppy from a person who's bitch accidentally mated with their neighbor's GSD.  The dame is 2 years old, Black/Tan, not registered but looks pretty pure-bred and this was her first litter, which was 11 pups.  The sire is an AKC registered White GSD.

Now here is the dilemma, I'm not good with puppies, they all look the same to me.  The pups are about 3.5 weeks old and are starting to show color.   Her owners told me that the pups were all black when they were born, then when I went to see them the other day, they all had white chests/bellies.  The paws and facial markings were beginning to come in with the traditional tan markings that an adult GSD typically shows.  Noses were all black when I went to see them, tails were pretty long. 90 degree angles on the hind legs WERE existent (although don't know how well that is in determining pure-bred in a puppy)

I then spoke to the owner's today and they said that they were positive that their bitch did breed with the neighbor's dog and in fact I did see pictures that they took of them "hooked" but they said when they took the puppies to a local GSD breeder, the breeder said that puppies look mixed.  I know it's possible for a litter to have 2 sires but the owner's weren't aware of any other linkage except for the one with the neighbor.  They also said that one of the pup's nose is beginning to change color and be a spotted black and pink.

I'm going up there again this weekend to take some detailed pictures but the whole white belly fur is really throwing me off.  There is also 1 pup that has white markings that looks like a mane, going all the way around the neckline, none of the other pups show this unusual marking.

If anyone can give me advise on whether this sounds like it could still be pure or if it is in fact mixed, it would be greatly appreciated and I will try to upload some pics of the litter this weekend.

I think there is more to this story than meets the eye.  I do not know 1 person that would get out a camera to snap pictures of " an accidental mating", strange to me.

That maybe the coverup, maybe that is a 2nd sire that they did on purpose to snap a photo so they could say see they are purebred.  You may not know what you are getting.  If you want a purebred german shepherd  I would run they other way from this one (just doesn't sound right).  If you don't care either way then take the puppy!

Do you want a mutt or a purebred dog,

you should make that decision, and if it doesn't matter than it looks like you're all set.

There can be many different sires to one litter,

when I was young a black lab in the neighborhood mated with all the boys, 2 were husky's looked just like the dad, 2 were Chow-Chow's they had the purple tongues, and 2 were a red color like a setter, nobody looked at all like mom, that was really wierd.....

The only reason I can think of for snapping that picture is to prove if maybe the sire had jumped into
private property and mated with the bitch.  You know, for proof to get expenses maybe?  I have a massive
headache, I hope people can understand what I'm trying to say.

Here are the pictures I took today, these pups are 3.5 WEEKS old.  The one on the left is a female, the one on the right is a male.  They both have the unusual white markings on the belly.  The female has a sharper, narrower snout and the male has a more rounded head.  When the pups are on their back, their ears flatten parallel to the ground and are angled very much like a full-grown GSD's would be.  Black noses, black eyes.

I see what you all are saying about it being a cover-up but this family doesn't seem too concerned with it's pure-bred standard.  They have no intention to register the pups and the pups definitely weren't bred on purpose for their monetary value.  They were also pretty honest with me about the possibility that the pups weren't pure-bred and gave me the option to change my mind or to pick one out when they show more of their markings.  I've actually found homes for several of them already from co-workers and such but I am really looking for the pure-bred standard.

Any thoughts on these photos?  Or is it still too early to tell?

I say cute  pups, not purebred.

If you want a GSD, keep looking.

They're really cute, but not at all pure Shepherd, even if dad is white, they wouldn't have big patches of white,

they would have perhaps a washed out black & tan.

do they live near someone that owns a Boxer, that's who I think the dad is...

CUTE     CUTE    CUTE!
