Just a few shots of our young fella "Orson". Hes 7 months in the pictures and we have had for about the last 3 months. He's already 80lbs so I think he's going to be fairly big boy. Just wondering how looks to the eye of German Shepherd people as he is our first German Shepherd.

I see it, he is one good looking dog. Is he realy 80lb? Or are  you just guessing? He looks healthy, how tall is he? he is a big boy but good looking and it looks like a well maintained dog.

He was 79.6 lbs on Monday night at the vet. Had to get an itchy ear looked at. Weve been feeding him a 50/50 blend of puppy and adult for the last 2 months as he was gaining weight way too fast. He gets at least 2 miles a day of off leash running everyday, usually gets that twice a day when it isnt raining. He just keeps growing!! Just measured him to the top of his back at the front shoulder and he is 28 inches. Decided he wanted to bite heck out my tape measure while I did it.

28 inches that's a big boy, that explains his weight. Puppy food is just advertisment it has no benefit, and many times is a reason of uncotrolled growth. You should be feeding him adult food. or even better RAW aspecially since he is a big boy, it will help you controll his weight and protect his hips at the same time. And he is above the GSD standard, I belive it calls for 26 (top) for mails & 24 for females. Hope this helps, do you have his pedigree?

Very large male, is he neutered? The reason I ask this there seems to be information on this growth after neutering. I would also feed him adult food. I love his color, what are you going to do with him?
Always,

We just recieved his CKC papers this week (Canadian not Continental) and I am going to send in for his 4 generation pedigree to get some idea where he comes from. He was originally owned by a woman about 4 hrs away from where we are and she was giving him away for free. I bumped into her ad by mistake and grabbed this fella up in a hurry. Her son was going away to school and there was no one to be around with the dog. We brought him home and could tell he was extremely under socialized. Afraid of everything, loud noises, other dogs and had no confidence at all.  He's come a long way in the 2 1/2 months we have had him.

He hasnt been neutered yet, he has such a mellow demeanor I figured there was no rush to get him done. I checked his vet records last night to double check his weight to make sure I didnt post the wrong weight by mistake. I was off by a bit, he was actually 89.6lbs, not 79.6lbs. He is very lean, no fat on him at all. His back bone is fairly prominent when you run your hand down his back and his ribs are right there when you rub his side. Spoke to the woman who bred his litter and aparently his father was a little over 100lbs. I attatched the only picture I have of his father.

Than this breeding should not take place. Another back yard breeder. He looks like nice boy, put some work in him, take care of him, don't let him get overweight, make sure you can always feel his ribs, and he will repay you with being a perfect companion. Just one sugestion don't fix him till at least 2 years, let the dog mature first.
