What is the correct name of the color pattern of this dog? Is it bi-color or Black saddle(with big saddle)?. here is his link,
http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/522355.html
It is confusing because his sire is sable and his dam looks black sadle, according to previous threads he should be black saddle but yet he looks bi-colr. Please clarify. Thanks

I believe that it is a black and gold blanket coat .

not a true bicolor, but yes very close - very dark black/tan -

by Ibrahim on 05 October 2009 - 13:10

Kacha35

so you say black/tan or gold,  but with a blanket? meaning bigger sadle?

by eichenluft on 05 October 2009 - 13:10

dark black/tan or black/red if you prefer (correct term is black/brown) - he is not saddle-marked at all.  I would refer to him as dark bl/tan.

Yes it covers more of the back and sides than a saddle back .

Ambii-

I am not trying to be a contrarian, however, what about the dog of the thread disqualifies him as bicolor then?

The ones you posted are, yes more black, however I see even some yellow fur on the underbelly of the first pic you posted, for example...

And if not a bicolor, what should we call the dog of the thread?  Blanket coat?

Agatha Vom Stromhaven is not a true Bi colored either, but her breeder in Idaho didn't know better.  She's a dark, blanket colored blk/red.  Her AKC papers say Bi-colored and I can't change them.  After I purchased her, I asked her breeder to allow me to change her name.  I sent the form and the money for the name change to him, all he had to do is sign it and send it in the AKC addressed and stamped envelope.  I only wanted to change the registered name to Alexia Vom Stromhaven, that way he could keep his kennel name and "A" litter name for her.  She didn't like the call name "Aggie".  I call her "Lexi" and she loves it.
The breeder refused to change the name after telling me he would on the phone.
