Okay, I'd like to know the answer to a very basic question.

What do you do with the poop?

I know some municipalities have green boxes, and you're allowed to dispose of it in these boxes, which is what I did when I lived in the Toronto area.

The small community where I now live has no such program, so I bag the poop a couple of times a week and put it out with the regular garbage.

But what about you folks with large numbers of dogs? How  do you manage it?

I have an incinerator with a forced air system to burn it along with anything else combustible.  Previously, I just put it into the septic tank as I am not on main drainage here.  If there uis not too much, you could put it down the toilet every day.

LOL....touchy subject....     My dog yard has woods on two sites, I basicaly just throw it over the fence. 4 dogs, no problem, no stink. I am feeding wellness core with raw, the bugs/beatles really like the poop and its decenerating fast. Its almost gone/ fallen appart the next day if I dont pick up right away.

Anyone else have something fancier, like a manure pit, or a septic sytem? Do your kennels have drainage channels to facilitate cleaning?

I looked at the Leerberg site, and there was some good info, but I"m also interested in how other kennels handle the problem.

i have a dumpster, they empty it once a week. I had them put it 100 yards away from the kennel, works pretty well.

I also triple bag the poop & put it in the dumpster, that is at an apt. building I own, I have seen doggie daycares with regular dumpsters so I guess it can be treated like household waste................

I scoop mine and put it in my dumpster.  I worked at a couple of vet's offices and one we put it in the dumpster, the other we had an industrial garbage disposal JUST FOR POOP and the other we had a giant type toilet bowl shape deal formed in the cement at the end of the rows of runs that a trough ran behind the runs to and you hose all the poo down there and when you are done you just pull the handle  and flush it like a toilet!  That was the best one!  The one with the garbage disposal was good too if the dogs didn't poop in the gravel cause then you just had to pick gravel out of the poop before you put it in the disposal!

Thanks, Vicki! I like the toilet idea. The vet I used to work for had something similar.

When I build my dream kennel, I'd like it to have its own septic system. I find blow flies are a HUGE problem in the summer here. If I don't pick up the poop soon enough, or seal the bags it's in well enough, I get maggots crawling all over the place! [shudder!]

UGH!  Maggots just freak me out!!!  I was a vet tech for 9 years and can handle most anything EXCEPT maggots!

Unfortunately because of  space issues we have to use a dumpster and bag the poop.
But I did find bio degradable bags not sure if that is really helping the environment.
But I kinda feel a litte better 100s lbs of poop sitting in land fill forever!
Luckily they come 2 times a week and fall is coming so the smell has got to get better!
