Granted I haven't been on the database very long, I am not however new by any means to working line shepherds, have been in that for 13 yrs.  The question I have to ask is why is it that nobody on here can seem to get along?? See A lot of ppl running down everybody else's dogs, because they may not have the pedigree you preferr.  Running down dogs because 3 yrs after it was sold there was an issue so it couldn't possibly have been trained right?!  We all know pedigree's are nice but they do NOT always make the working dog, not every dog out of that pedigree will work, and  sometimes you get a dynamo out of a hodgepodge of bloodlines. Sometimes a breeder does a great job breeding and training a dog and the oaf that buys it dosen't keep it up, lets the dog sit and then complains 3 yrs later when magically the dog says yep I'm not doing that I have never heard that word before in my life I promise.  Anyone here can complain about other's dogs, but in the end the proof is in the dog you put out.  So instead of slamming everybody else, especially being rude to ppl new to the breed if you have an issue with someone's dog, or training style why don't you just shut up and put your dog up against thiers and see whose works better.

Shouldn't this be placed in the All Breeds forum?  No, wait.  Put it in the All-Forums-Everywhere-On-All-Topics section.

This is the story of the german shepherd breed, and like any good story, there needs to be conflict.  Boring dialog leads to a lack of inspiration, lack of passion, and lack of development.  If you're not passionate about this breed, then do what you've been doing, and stay SHUT UP.  But you're right, and now that we all realize how petty we are, we can all shake hands and be friends!  AAAhaaahaaha.  ;-)  Welcome, FINALLY to the forum!  :-)

I don't mind people being passionate about the breed.  I am very passionate about the breed, debates are fine but so are differences in opinions.  There is a huge difference in being passionate and just being an ass.  Running down everyone else's dog etc.  You equivilating people being rude and nasty to being passionate is like saying there's nothing wrong with the school yard bully he's just REALLY passionate.

See?  It's just as much about self discovery as well!  How would you know what you're really made of, if you've never been pushed around in your lifetime?  Let's not upset the order of the universe now, by trying to attain some altruistic sense of belief.  People flock to this central hub in order to reap from this breed, and belittle others for their own sense of self worth.

There in lies the problem... Those that have to belittle others to validate their own self worth, typically don't have much self worth.  When we all started out we all asked the "stupid" question got the answer and went DOUH!! when we got the answer because we should have known.  We have all those first couple of dogs got one that we swore we could get to work, he had the right pedigree, and the only work the dog wanted to do was gaurd your couch.  When we started our first couple of dynamo dogs became dynamos probably in spite of us and our mistakes not because of us.  We learned along the way.  So when the "babies" to this breed come on by all means let them pay their dues and make the same mistakes we did.  That said I do have serious issues with people that have no idea what they are doing breeding this breed.  For god sakes look what happened to the american line shepherds.  Or the people who are capitalizing on genetic faults and breeding to purposely get "panda" shepherds (which by the way I assume the commands are in chinesse for).  I have issues with people that don't train, or work these dogs that try and breed them, get dogs that are wayyy to much dog for them and continue to breed them, and in turn placing the wrong dog in the wrong environment and family.  But as I said pedigrees are great and yes they are a great way to determine if a dog might have the ability to be a great working dog.  But those big name bloodlines didn't start that way, they started with a dog with a hodgepodge pedigree, but had the qualities needed to work, temperment, structure, desire, drive, courage etc and someone that worked their butt off to get it to where it was.  Like others I will look at the bloodlines but I'm a little more interested in a "type" of dog.  And if I don't care for your dog, or the bloodlines you do, that's fine.

Well, I also find it in poor taste to criticize any specific dog, but I do generalize about what I dislike.  Sometimes, a dog can be looked on unfavorably because of who it's owner is, or what level of training it's received, and I think that's unfair.  People, on the other hand, I would not extend the same mercy towards, if I thought they deserved it.  The dogs themselves are generally more likeable, I'd say.

There should be debates on that you are correct, there are definately people that should not own these dogs let alone breed one.  However when the new people come on and yes some are idiots, but everyonce in awhile I see someone ask something that is a pertitnent question if you are thinking about this breed and it sparks a huge name calling marathon.  Now Ace I'm sorry you think there's no hand holding here because if you have been in this breed very long at all someone held yours! Wether it was you grew up with parents who were into the breed and they held your hand and taught you what you know, or it was one of the first reputable breeders or trainers you worked with that taught you what you know, or it was the author of those books you read. And if that is your attitude that all new ppl are unworthy of hand holding every once in a while, please do explain how you expect this breed to continue to flouirish and survive?? For that to happen new people are going to have to become interested, and would you rather them be knowledgable and responsible owners that love this breed as much as we do, or someone who couldn't get any help ended up ruining a dog.  Those of us that already love this breed won't be around forever, so maybe you might want to recommend a book they could read, or say find a trainer, tell them how to do the research they need to do instead of just saying well no hand holding here.
