This is a completely gratuitous video ...

It turns out that the daycare we occasionally take our GSD to posts videos of the dogs playing.

I love this video (52 s) since the end of it shows the temperament of our dog. "Hey! There's a human close to me! Slurp!".

 I guess I,m a old fuddy dudduy because I would never allow anyone one boarding my dogs to allow them to "play" with a strange dog in this manner. JMHO.

At home I will allow it under my supervision only on limited basis, maybe!.

@Bob-
I understand your concerns- probably similiar to reasons why we don't go to dog parks. However, this boarding facility is very good- dogs are carefully supervised and only dogs of similiar size and temperament are put together. Many of our friends take their dogs here and provided excellent references. It also depends on your dog- our dog is extremely good natured and plays well with other dogs. She doesn't do well with confinement. We don't take her here often- mostly when we are doing kennel repairs (... like pouring a concrete kennel floor this week).

Nice video Laura. You can see how kind and gentle your dog is. Personally, so long as it is supervised by someone knowledgeable (which it appears to be) it is OK. I think the key is selecting dogs of similar size and temperament.  It looks like good fun for the dogs, and is can only reinforce good socialisation and manners with other dogs.

My dogs don't go to anything like this, but are allowed free interaction with other dogs, including play like this (under my eyes of course) when out and about.  They frequently become involved in 'dog parties' which involve up to 20 dogs. It would take a lot for me I guess to trust somebody else to take care of mine, but then if I saw this I wouldn't be worried.

That's cute. I love how the Pyr is just sniffing the Husky while it's down.  My three dogs play the same way (well, a bit more rough!).

I don't allow my dogs to interact with other dogs while being boarded, but know plenty of people who do (and have a few friends who own and run such facilities) and they seem to do just fine.  It's not for me but that's because my dogs do not care for dogs outside of our pack.

I should note that we did a lot of work with Senta from the beginning to socialize her with other dogs (a few really generous dog owners in my neighbourhood).

I agree that allowing your dog to play with other dogs outside your supervision is not for everyone. The videos helped to reassure my husband that she is doing well at daycare. It's a balance - confinement is a bigger issue for us right now than playing with other dogs. I've noted in previous threads how resistant Senta is to being kennelled (hence, the concrete floor for her kennel).

If I had to choose between kenelling or daycare, there would be no contest, I would choose this every time, and I bet Senta would too. Good choice IMO.

Think of the stimulation she is getting at the day facility versus the stimulation in a kennel!

Senta is so beautiful and seems super sweet, she looks like she is really enjoying herself! Thanks for sharing, I think it says alot that they video the sessions. Good luck with the concrete pouring, we did that with our first dogs years ago and never had an issue afterward, Jen

@clee27 - I love your avatar photo.

Senta usually has the temperament of the stereotypical golden retriever (she doesn't have that "certain aloofness" that the CKC describes for the GSD breed standard) unless we're hiking without my husband (then she's all GSD on high alert and stays very close to me).

Saturday is expected to be a sunny day with a high of 17 C (63 F). My husband is molified that he doesn't have to pour concrete in the rain (it's rained solid for over a week here). I'll try to post an exciting action shot this weekend (who doesn't want to see a photo of someone else pouring concrete?).

Thanks Laura, he loves his ball, so when it would go in the pool he had to wait until it was pushed to the edge to get it. He only "enters" the pool through stairs, ha! Can't wait to see the action shots, maybe Senta will, she looks like a good helper. I had a female who was so friendly to everyone but I found out thru our years together she could get really serious really fast, she was a great GSD even though she wasn't typically aloof.
