Normally they start Obedience C early and in the mean time the first ones drawn head off to the Tracking Fields A. When the first of B is finished normally again around 6 to 8 dogs and Handlers, then the first drawn on C do there protection routines and after they finish they . then they go back to the next section drawn on B. In the meantime it is geared that the second lot of section A depart as the first lot are finishing depends on how far away the Tracking fields are from the main venue? A lot of the time the ones holding the event have buses to take the spectators to the tracking fields, but i do not know if it is the case in this event, To those who are not sure of the area around the venue If it was that bad then surely the powers to be would not hold the WUSV event there in the first place; If it is a bit suspect then stay in the company of friends and a layer of clothes over your Money etc then enjoy yourselves? Life is too short to let others you do not even know dictate what you do, and do not forget to take some pic,s of the group you are in and of the contestants for us unfortunate people who will not be there

I agree that this thread has been positive, maybe Chris has heard these comments in other places, I just try to project a positive outlook for a great event for USA. We don't have the opportunities that Europe has to see international competitions each year....it seems foolish to not maximize this or any other opportunity because of differences.

Anyone who really wants to attend this event will do it. No one is going to let rumors and fear keep them away if they want to see the trials. No big city in the US is 100% safe and Europe isn't any safer.  It's a dangerous world. Take a dog, isn't that why we have GSD's in the first place?  For god sake I'm over 70 with a piece of crap ASL that has already proven herself to be a good protection dog; if I'm not afraid to go almost anywhere with her, why would anyone with a working line be? Suck it up.

Yeah! That's what I was thinking! Doesn't everyone have a big dog with full sets of teeth with them? If not, I just lock my car doors and make sure I have a full tank of gas.

Blitzen: You might just be seeing me down there after all... LOL  DenWolf offered me a job with no pay that I am finding hard to refuse!  We shall see.....Teeth Smile

I went to the '98 WUSV in Boston and never noticed that it wasn't in the best part of town.  If I did, it's not what I remember about the event.  I don't remember being nervous, on alert or concerned.  I did have my male GSD with me and he was a pretty serious dog.  I'm planning on going to this years event and don't think I'll be too concerned about the area.  I'll take the word of the members like Cliff, Paul15, and Ron that know the area and not be too worried.  Naturally, I will use common sense and I am always careful.  Just as I would if were traveling to any city that I wasn't familiar with.

Blitzen that was my experience in Boston too. I stayed with my uncle that lives about mile from the stadium, walked back and forth everyday and lived to tell the tale.

This stadium was built because of politics. On the other side of the Commodore Barry bridge in NJ, the state senate president had a horse park built by the Bridge Authority. This part on NJ has nothing to do with North Jersey, gangsters, housewives who use black shoe polish on their hair, etc. It is all farmland sorry to tell you. It is one of the more affluent Phila suburbs. So of course on the PA side they built this beautiful minor league soccer stadium. It is in Chester PA which has had a bad reputation for decades.Eventually  even urban blight falls or burns down. The PA side has been cleared out to the point you would never know anything was ever there. If you go 16 miles south, you will see 20 story banks in Wilmington DE where there used be  slums where we all send our credit card payments . Like a new small city. Chester has a university with a law school where our VP Biden teaches, A top burn center  Crozier-Chester. And the bridge is a cantilever bridge doing just fine.

I've been to Wilmington, Del.
The downtown area near the water is beautiful!
Had a great dinner there, also!
It might be a good spot for some of you to get away to if you have time.
